Default finally, the first breakdown

yep.......it had to happen....after two years and 10k miles of ownership. last night, out on the town for my birthday no less, came out of the restaurant and the car wouldn't fire. plenty of juice and the starter sounded normal, just wouldn't turn over...

thanks to mckeel i was on a flatbed in about an hour, 5 miles down the road to the shop. passed the time telling my wife stories of my old MGB.....

"ah you think this is stranded, well there was this one time..."

I had a similar experience with my 86 911. It ended up being the sensor under the driver's seat.

Not likely to be a sensor under the drivers seat but more a relay . I think you are refering to the DME relay.
Suunds like you are saying it is turning over fine it is just not firing.

IF it is a DME car change the DME relay, even if that is not the culprit you will have a spare.
IF you have verified spark it could be the fuel pump, even if it is not a DME car it could still be the fuel relay

Good luck

You are absolutely correct...it was the DME relay. It turned over sounded fine, however, just wouldn't start. Replaced the relay and all was good again.

it's an '84 3.2....

yep to clarify the starter was turning over like normal but the car wouldn't fire. at the time it did occur to me that it may not be getting fuel....

is that the kind of thing a mere driver like myself could fix on the fly? guess i need to research the forum archives for DME info huh?

no it was just the one breakdown apparently caused by the sensors.....

dme was fine, the shop said it had been replaced somewhat recently (i've had the car two years so probably right before i bought it)
