I think you wont be disappointed with a 964. IMO the 964 it's the best 911 in terms of price vs quality relation. 1993 is also a very good year (pre 91 had leaking problems) and the car should come with adjustable suspension, teardrop mirrors and magnesium cup if you have luck. However,
In the other hand you have a beautiful 3.2 black car very similar to the 964. I think it's a good upgrade in terms of modernity (airbags, air con, steering, brakes, etc) but I have my doubt towards that move. You have an excellent 911 already. You are in the same position as a 964 owner that wants to upgrade to a 993. Once again the car experience is very similar, and in the end you will spend money to reach almost the same position. Have you haver consider other options? like a Turbo or a 993 or even a 996?

I am looking at it to get all the items you listed. I love the look of it also.
Yes I have a great car. Black/black and the AC doesnt work for some reason, lol.
I can get the 964 with little impact to me $$ wise. I was worried about possible problems.

Lancaster,
The 1993 964's really don't have any issues like the earlier 964's can have. They came with updated motors to avoid the cylinder to head leaks, they had LUK dual mass flywheels verses the more prone to failure Freudenberg units.
The dual distributor belt should be changed at this point just due to age. Insure all the electrical accessories work and all the warning lights come on when you first turn the key (consult an owner's manual to see what all should light up). The usual used car issues should be checked for as well.
I always think of the 1993 and 1994 964's as some of the best modern 911's Porsche built due to Porsche solving all the early 964's potential issues.
Good luck,
Jay

I would drive several likely 964's before settling on "the one". I owned a '90 964 C4 and loved the machine. HOWEVER....all 964's can be a pill to work on. C2's and C4's especially. The costs for a nice 964 are still low and a good value of you find a well kept one. Most drivers want the addiitonal 45 HP of the 3.6L engine. But don't forgt to check the weight of the car against the 3.2L 911's. My '86 puts out only 205 Hp (vs 247 3.6l). The HP to weight ratio in the '86 is better due to a lighter body.
Clocking track speeds, the 3.2L is only .12 seconds behind the 3.6L. Not bad for a 22 YO Porsche.
I will admit that the G50 (or G64) is a better shifting transmission than the 915, but adding a "factory" short shift and a new clutch cable has it all silky.
Last word...be careful of the C4's. They have a lot of very expensive parts hung on them. And unless you know a good mechanic with a "Bosch hammer" it is unlikely that you can perform a brake bleed.

There are alot of "untruths" and conjecture concerning the 964 series. Sometimes it is difficult to seperate fact from fiction, especially on the internet.
#1 find a shop that is familiar with the 964 model series
#2 make sure you get a thorough PPI
#3 early 964's had some issues (dual mass flywheel, leaking cylinder head to head mating, dual distributer failing) you'll find as the mileage increases, most of these issues have been addressed on someone else's nickle.
What's not to like? Dual plug - more HP, much more torque, g-50, ABS Airbags, significant structural improvment, working AC - and a smooth underbelly.
Who doesn't like a smooth underbelly?
