Flame on.......
So I was hungry, I decided to go out and try to find some food. I pull out onto the busy street and start accelerating. All of a sudden I feel a strange draft and there is more abundant light. I look up and I can see the stars.....strange, I don't remember taking my targa top off. I look in the review mirror and I can see the targa top sailing through the air like a kite on crack. Joy.
I guess the last time I parked the car I was in a rush because it was starting to rain, I assume I must have forgotten to secure the latches. So I have to stop the car on this road/highway in the dark and run out behind me to retrieve my beloved and expensive targa top. I through it in the back seat and got the hell out of there.
The good news is that the top was not damaged as far as I can tell, first light in the morning might reveal more, and more importantly no one was hurt.
Argh.....

I think you've been very lucky on this occasion and should kneel toward Stuttgart and pray thanks to the Porsche Gods that have smiled upon you.
Only good thing out of this is you'll never leave it unlatched again!

You're very lucky your Targa top didn't get run over by another car or truck and even more importantly, you didn't cause an accident. You probably avoided a ticket and a potential insurance claim if someone got injured or a car got damaged.
I'd say you got a gift...

I had a similar experibce with my old VW Thing.
After an 8 mile drive to work I look over notice one of the top latches was not fastened and before I even have a chance to reach over I see the other clip release only giving me time to say "ohh Crap!" and suddenly the top rips up into the air bending the frame
It probably would not have happened if I didn't look

Sorry Murphy, but you could cut him right out of the picture and never know he was there.
Search back about 4 or 5 months to the origin of the picture and someone's comments were get the F off the car. I think Murphy made the right call in selling the car rather than the girl, but he is doubling up his fists.

I still miss the car, but I know that it's in good hands. Old Man Neri, you should have known being a pilot that sooner or later, the car or some of it's part would take off into orbit one day...
Glad there was no damage to the top. As you probably know, the receipt in 2001 said something like $895 to rebuild it.
