Default Pictures!!----Jacking up the 911 on all fours.

Please tell me if I have this right, I don't want to cause major damage to my 911. I believe I am doing the rear just fine and I am just looking for someone to nod their head. I have not attempted the front and the first few pictures are of the front and I have drawn where I believe I am supposed to jack it up (mounting points of A-Arms).

Oh and is it okay to jack up the front when the rear is up on 2 jack stands?

Looks ok to me. I can't tell from the photo, but I think you have the rear jack on the sump plate, right? I like the jack pad into the side of the car method better.

You can lift up the front with the back up, but why are you lifting up on all fours? With the jack pad in the side you lift the rear and front simultaneously, stick your jack stands under, then do the other side.

Yes I think I am going to order the jack pad just to be extra careful. I was asking this just incase I don't have my jack pad handy. The rear is, in fact, on the sump plate but I don't know if it matters what part of the sump plate you are on.

I jack up the front the same way.

I just drive the car onto some boards to clear the Jack.

Hey Oshin looks like you will be under there with some simple green and a tooth brush for a while .. always a great thing to do to get familiar with the bits .. just start cleaning ..

The Carreras have four 'jack pads' built in for either placing jackstands or using a four point lift to raise the car. I realize you're asking about 'jacking up' the car (and imo, using a jack pad the way the factory intended is the best approach), but for jackstand placement (once the car is in the air), use the factory pads. This technigue 'by design' also lets you access all of your suspension components without the stands being in the way.

Thanks Keith, good point. Hey Iceman, what can i use to clean all the under-parts of my car? What is it called and where can I buy it? Are there any places on the underside of the engine or under the car where I SHOULDN'T use it? I want to clean all the black build up on the engine sump and various parts of the underside of the car.

Guys will have tonnes of input on this , but I always use simple green and a good stiff brush, it is fairly neutral so wont affect the aluminum on the car. I clean just about everywhere and use a hose, it comes amazingly clean. Some guys use GUNK engine degreaser, that works very well but I believe it is a little harsher, and for that cats *** of cleaner , brake cleaner.... but that is expensive...

Start with simple green and a stiff brush .. I got mine at sams club and dilute it myslf in a spray bottle.

On the hard to clean areas where there is heavy grease/oil, I use mineral spirits. You can get a quart can or gallon of it at Low'es or Home Depot or any other hardware type store. Then I go to work with Simple Green and a stiff brush. Depending on access to area, you may need a couple of different size brushes. The drawback to using brake cleaner is that it usually evaporates before you clean the area effectively.

Keith: Some people will disagree with the advice about jack stand placement. Many of the "pundits" say the best place for jack stands in the rear of the car are under the torsion bar covers ahead of each wheel. The same pundits say that jack stands should be placed in the front under the torsion bar mounting cover.
