Default Carrera 3.2 ultimate power

I've been looking into getting more power out of the 3.2 engine. What can be done and how much? I realise that's a pretty open statement.

I'm considering,

new barrels
new pistons
SW chip
custom stainless exhaust
new MFI

Tony Corlett's book seem to think that with this combo you can wring about 276bhp out of a 3.2 engine.

Who has the top engine here? What was done?

You can easily get more than 300 hp with the right build up. The limit is depends on your budget, need to pass smog, drivability, etc. Autofarm and 9 Meister come to mind when I think of air cooled engines on your side of the pond.

Start with exhaust, chip and intakes. If you want a big increase and are looking at pistons etc go for a 3.4/5 kit.

Yeah, if you're considering new pistons, that means you are considering a rebuild. I would look into going larger than a 3.2. You might even think about 3.6 to start with.

Well, not considering a rebuild just for wear. A 930 would cost me $15,000 over what I paid for my car so I'm thinking of putting that into the 3.2 instead and creating a monster 3.2. Why not?

Research is showing a 3.6 kit to be a good idea but will I start to be limited by by the heads, valve sizes etc.? The goal is 300bhp.

With chip/exhaust some 3.2s here in the are achieving 250hp. I want that extra 50bhp!

One reason would be that you cannot get $15,000 out of your converted 3.2, but you can out of the Turbo.

A stock 993-based 3.6 makes 286hp, right?

Sell the 3.2, buy a 993. Go test drive one.

I did the extrudehone plentums, bored throttle body, Fabspeed exhaust, Steve Wong chip
thing to my 3.2. Very happy with it. Runs strong, cool and gets good mileage. Unless you
have a specific need for more power...like tracking the car, or you are looking for bragging
rights, this is a good upgrade. If you want more, the 3.5 or euro pistons 3.2 is the way to
go. More horsepower = more money..... how much do you want to spend... how fast do
you want to go ??

Thanks for the advice but I'm not a fan of the 993's looks.

The aim is to convert the 3.2 not buy any other car.

Thanks - I have $15,000 and I want 300bhp. (However fast that will get me).

I've not heard mention yet of a bored throttle body? What's involved?

I'm told intakes are very expensive? Where did you source you intakes?

Drop a PM to Viperbob. He built up a 3.2 to put something like 325 hp out and the thing was a great daily driver as well. Hopefully he will give you the low down on what he did!

I heard what you said about the turbo, but If I had 15k plus my 3.2 core, I'd really just ship the whole thing to Steve, here http://www.rennsportsystems.com/ and have him do whatever whatever he and you decide on. That's plenty of money for whatever you want to do.
Still a 3.2 turbo w/400 hp is very doable with less than 10k
