Still a 3.2 turbo w/400 hp is very doable with less than 10k

first buy a turbonator to restrict some airflow which adds 35hp instantly.

secondly get some AC delco spark plugs, pocket the rest of your money and call it a day. I would just turbo that thing. I'm sure reliability won't be comprimised.

I am with you...I like the normally aspirated engines. 10.5 pistons, big bore carbs, s -cam, massaged heads, new valves and springs, and tuned headers should be able to get you 300bhp, but don't know how drivable or reliable it will be. Getting into racing engine territory, and those only last one or two seasons...granted they are driven harder, but still they are not built for durability. Then again, I know of a guy who drives a 3.8 twin plug, full motec, 10.5 P&C as a daily driver and loves it.
I did a steve wong chip and headers and got to 260 easily.
Also may be a problem with emissions testing, but don't know how much of an issue that is UK.

Local guy did the '83 SC 3.0 / replaced w/ 3.6L, injection, ECU, harness, Fabspeed exhaust etc for ~$14k from memory for everything, leaving the 3.0L & injection as core. VERY MUCH more noticeable power than my 84 3.2L w/ chip, bypass & M&K Muffler.
