3.2 or cayman

3.2 or cayman
tossing the idea...either keep the 3.2 and look at maybe an elise...or sell the 3.2 and buy a cayman...i will be putting more miles due to new job and want a newer car..i am afraid that after 3 months with a cayman i will really miss the 3.2..what do you think...

yeah its totally apples and oranges..i could go wrong with the cayman by it being less raw and maybe a tad on the boring side..but its new,warranty,great driver...apples and oranges..

But if you want to make it raw look at what you are starting with. Great hp, balance, overall performance. If you want to make it louder... after market exhaust. If you want to make it stiffer change the suspension etc.

No way can an Elise be a daily driver, unless you get the gullwing hardtop, or unless joey is < 5feet tall . I thought I might replace the Cooper with a used one, fantastic driving experience but to live with daily ? no way.
I was #1 for a Cayman S at a local dealer, but I came to my senses and got my money back. Maybe down the road I would pick up a used one, but my two cars are inexpensive and fun as h*ll.
If you can afford the Cayman, go for it. I had an '02 C4S, there is something to be said for modern cars for commuting, that's why I bought something besides the SC.

You sure the old 3.2 won't take you to your new job? I'd drive it & save the $s so I could get a slightly used Cayman (or BoxsterS w/ hartop?) in a few years, retiring the 3.2 for fun or Lotus trade or cash in... or - buy a nice, depreciated late model Bimmer (325 / 328 / 330) for commuting, keep the 3.2...? {all my personal choices include keeping the 3.2 around, so I may not be much help...}

1.i am not MUCH taller than 5 feet.lol
2.the 3.2 is up for the task...i think i just want something newer..i love the elise(only in addition to the 3.2)..i feel that the newer porsches are a bit steep..i was looking at the merc slk amg.its an 06 for 52k
that seems like a lot more car than a base boxster or even an s...i really love the 3.2 and cosider it a real keeper..i have owned boxsters(base and an s)..i owned a 993..and must admit the 3.2 is MUCH more fun than all of them..(even the 993)..i am not a fan of the 996..dont want another boxster(been there twice,and its enough)..do you think the slk amg would be a better bet than the cayman(base)...
I WILL KEEP THE 3.2..just looking for a second car now.

No way I could have a Cayman as a driver, I'm 6'2" and had a one day test drive in one when they first came out. Not enough legroom. I guess a Boxster would be the same. Other than that, it was a great car.

My daily car is an e320 Benz. Not the car I would choose, but I sent my wife to buy a Benz 2 years ago for Christmas. This is the car that SHE wanted in additon to HER '05 Tahoe.
I get to drive the thing 95% of the time it leaves the house, but it is HER car.
I want something either more fun or more useful.
I was just thinking about these Scion box truck/mini suv things as a commuter. I only drive about 5 miles each way to work, and besides it being extremely affordable, I could rice it out a bit to make it more fun to drive. You know, wheels/tires, brakes, Recaros, exhaust, intake, chip, suspension, etc. Probably all for less than the down payment on a Cayman that I would probably grow just as tired with anyway.
