When I dropped my car at the leather guy this morning I noticed, apart from the very cool F355 seat, 2 porsche sports seats. They're not electric, the shape of them is quite dramatic, the bolsters come right out, I hadn't seen them in real life before and was quite impressed. He said they were removed from an early 911 which he had put 928 seats in a while back.

I was just wondering what year they were, he has been meaning to get them on ebay but doesn't know how so I may do it for him at some stage, half thinking I should get them dyed for my car as the shape is much more 'sporty'. If anyone really wants them let me know and I'll tell him.

Those seats are most often found in early 930 Turbos and SCs. For some reason I've seen them more in Targas than coupes (SCs), and I know of at least one special-ordered '77S that was fitted with them from the factory. They are a much sought after seat that I've seen sell for more than $2K/pair in fair condition. They were built as manual seats only, and because of the high bolster design using the tilt forward backrests can be a bit of a challenge. They hold the body well at high cornering speeds, but are primarily used for street, not track, applications. They are very heavy and do not have shoulder slots for 5/6 point racing belts.

I have the seat in my 82 Targa and love them

Not a good seat for someone with a wide "frame" to fit in.

Recaro-designed/manufactured Sports Seats. If you look closely, the seating surfaces have tiny perforations for I believe cooling. Excellent seats especially for small/medium build drivers/passengers. I believe they were 1980 model year offering.

My late-build 1979 US 930 was optioned with them. I wouldn't have it any other way.

The seats are dark blue leather but for purposes of illustration, I've lightened the photo image.

By 1988 everything was different! Although my memory is fuzzy regarding the Sport Seats in your pic, my best friend special-ordered a new '77S coupe with full leather and Sport Seats in '77. A few years later I owned that car for about a year and it was as new with the same seats. I had a very good customer who purchased a new '77 Turbo Carrera in '77, that car was fitted with dark blue Sport Seats discussed in another post. At one point I owned a 1980 Targa with Sport Seats, but their original fitment is unknown. One thing that I remember is the headrest shape, which at one point in time changed shape slightly. I believe that at one point in 1980 the Sport Seats were replaced with a seat that used a backrest inclination adjuster wheel instead of the lever on the seats pictured. The new seats also featured a new, shorter, lower side bolster, which permitted easier access to the rear seat area. If I had to guess, the period during which the pictured Sport Seats were made was from 1976 ('77 models) thru early 1980 - but don't quote me on that! One thing about the seats is certain, they put your butt a little closer to the floor, which gives taller drivers like me a touch more headroom.

They are near worthless to a guy with ANYTHING other than a cork interior.

you may get them for a good enough price to ship over, the details of where they are are in my 'had my seats cleaned' thread. Maybe try contacting him to see?

He said they can be no problem. Yes the leather is perferated for sure but is different to the leather in my car, it's kinda more 'crumply??'. I'm in sydney right now, when i get back tomorrow night I wil pm you his email address or you can just call him.

We didn't talk $$$ but I did say I would put them on ebay for him. Shipping woudln't be much to sydney! like 100-200 max, spose it depends on what you get em for if it's worth it or not, I dont know if it interested in keeping it era correct but there are some excellent condition 964 seats on the porsche club vic site for bugger all, also includes a heap of other trim parts and they're already black (will be ellectric too).

I have never seen these sell for as high as $2000 in fair condition.

They are 1974-1980 sport seats. Typically excellent pairs in black seem to be available for $900-$1100. And yes, they are very heavy!
