Default one if the greatest engines i've ever heard.

The link below has various sound clips of a 1951 BRM Formula 1 car. Sure its not a porsche but it commands respect.

http://gpl.krej.cz/mp3.html

Supercharged 1500cc V16 producing 600hp @12,000 rpm

Turn the sound up!

Ha! I thought you we're looking for a 6500rpm rev limit rotor! I'm doing a cap/rotor on my 2.7 now.

I have a 6500, it's a street car and I've already had a close call with missing a shift, not trusting of a higher limit. I'm really wondering if I should just save $1200 and do a crank-fire set up once and for all.

hmmm would be interesting...$1200 is a fair load of cash for a street car though.

I would love for someone to keep this thread up and post links to the best engine sounds ever. This is a great start!

Yes, the BRM is a popular favorite, especially with the British. It was a failure as a GP engine, more suited to an oval track racer with the crank driven RR supercharger. Last GP engine with hairspring valves ? I heard it run in England, nice noise, but not quite as good as the current spec Ferrari driven in anger at a real GP. The Matra V-12 is another popular best
sound, hear it here

Best Porsche engine note ? The 1938 Auto Union in NYC on UTube is pretty good.

I have a copy of the hard cover "Classic Racing Engines" by Karl Ludvigsen. Is features many of these engines we're discussing and I highly recommend this technical book. The only problem with the book is the age of the newest engine, which is from the 90's. The history goes back to the dawn of the 20th century, however. The Porsche flat-12 is in there, as well as the BRM-16.

Quick Reply: one if the greatest engines i've ever heard.
