Default Porsche owner wannabe

Hi everybody:

I learned how to drive on a 1965(?) Porsche 90 and fell in love with Porsches.

Now I'm looking in to purchase one within the 1985-1995 range form as a weekend toy.
Think is worth to purchase a used Porsche for the same price as of a brand new American, Japanese or Corean car.
Would like to know what would be a good/acceptable miles per year ratio.
Is a millage in the 100 thousands miles rage good/accptable for a 20 years old Porsche?
It my understanding tha Porsches are to be driven fast, however how often should they be taken to high speed?

Any feedback from Victory Motorcars, reputation, reliability, etc?

Would really apreciate some imput from this forum knowledge.

would that have been a 356 with a super 90 engine or did those only come with speedsters?

You are in the 911 forum which is cars basically up to 89. So you might want to post on the 964 forum also. most guys here have around 100,000 miles or well over, I have over 100,000 and it drives like new. Porsche's don't HAVE to be driven at high speed although they are more fun that way. trick is have your allignment done to fit your driving style and requirements.

Victory Motors.... hmm a tricky one . I will say nothing other than read this forum .

Do a search and you'll find a lot of info on Victory. I mean a whole lot.

My 1988 Carrera has 118,000 miles, and an engine rebuild at 90,000k. To me, mileage makes no difference. A car with highway miles is better than one with city miles.

If you learned to drive in a Porsche 356 with a Super 90 engine, it was older than July 1963...

As far as dealer...I'd buy a Porsche from another enthusiast...in my humble opinion, that's the way to get a good and honest car...I'd also get Pete Zimmermann's book ("The used 911 story") in order to understand the differences between models...just my $0.02...

Do Corean cars come with Corinthian leather?

Just kidding! Where are you located? I think you will find plenty to choose form on both coasts. In the Northeast there are deals right now with guys selling before winter sotrage. You can find a decent '84-'86 3.2 for near SC money or at least mid teens. On the West coast there are just more cars to choose from and decent SC's can be had $10K-$12K. Targas can be had for a little less.

I'm looking at two this week, one real nice '86 coupe listing at $16 and an '88 listing for $18Kboth OBO.

DONT FORGET ABOUT A PPI!!

Not breaking rules unless you're the one who's selling...I would be interested to hear about the "engine cooling system" added...could be a band-aid for a much larger problem. These cars won't run hot unless there is something wrong. I live in GA and can run my 1988 [or my 62 356] all day long even in traffic and they won't get close to the red on the temp gauge.

I'd also like to see the real seats. Leaving seat covers on while taking selling pictures could be a good sign that the seats are royally screwed, and those covers are UGLY! That said, the price is in range, and it is probably worth a PPI or at least a peek at it...Pedro might even be able to help given that the car is in FL
