My disagreement is with agreement that the 993's appearance is disagreeable.
Opinions may reference facts, but they are not in-&-of-themselves facts.
Is logic ugly?

As for 993s being ugly - I vote no. In fact, I'd consider the 993 to be among the best looking of the 911s. Although my favorite would still have to be a particular '89 Carrera that I foolishly sold a couple years back.

Whether or not something is attractive is subjective and meaningless. Such discussions are purely qualitative and bereft of fact. For me Porsche ownership is about the quantitative side of automobiles. What the machine can do and also what it can not. Porsche heritage is racing not art. Although many continue to merge and blur the two. Good looks are the byproduct of a car’s functional side. That is, scoops for the sake of scoops or flares for that same sake with out real function only turns the heads of the shallow and uneducated. "They look cool". Study any high performance machine. Surfaces flow, lines merge and separate, panels tilt and blend out of purpose. The looks of each car – the rake of the windshield, design of the chin, or finish of the tail is engineered. Does the art department have a hand in it? Of course they do. Who wants to buy a car as it leaves the engineer’s drawing board? Seat covering, skin color, trim, wheel design and many other things are born in the mind of the design artist. But again most (each?) of these also have a functional purpose in material choice, positioning, etc.
The human eye is aesthetically unforgiving at times and completely unaware at others. The artist must be aware of this and do what he/she can to guide the final rendering.
Where is all this leading? Only facts matter and by fact a 993 is neither a beautiful car nor an ugly car. It is simply a car. Like my 84. I like it because of what it can do. That is what sports car ownership is about. I mean really did we all spend $$$$$ to admire our cars from the outside? If so we can save a lot of money and buy a picture, hang it on the wall and say what a beautiful car! 99.999% of my enjoyment and pride comes from being on the inside looking out not the other way around. I could care less about the impressionistic opinions of the masses.
Maybe I am just showing my age but I am done with the- “hey look at me” / “trying to turn the head of that blonde” / “my car is better than your car nonsense”. I’ve lost many things over the years and fortunately insecurity, low self esteem and poor manners were among them.
In reference to the reoccurring discussion regarding the “classic” Porsche looks somewhere back in the seventies/early eighties Porsche was voted the world’s most recognizable car. Could it earn that honor today? Or is that subjective?

now we also learn that the subjective is meaningless.
quality doesn't count because it can't be, well, counted.
beauty is irrelevant in objects.
2D renderings are equivalent to 3D objects in motion.
I am getting so much out of this discussion - we must keep it going for the sake of our education.
oh, & don't look at your car as you walk away from it.

It's like telling someone they have an ugly baby. Some people do have ugly kids but their parents love them. Still ugly kids...
