993s are ugly

I think the 996 is a lot worse. I have to agree on all the 'seams' across the front- they do look kinda goofy, but the rest of the car is awesome. I especially like the 993's 'hips', a look which was dropped on the 996. Each to his own, however...

If the 964 had the 993's *** then we'd have a sweeeeet looking car.
The 993 is an oddball. The entire bottom of the car is modern and the roof/windows antiquated, I stand by my statement and do not aspire to ever own one. A 964 on the other hand I do aspire to own. Especially a turbo.
Different strokes for different folks. Just a little tired of the whole 993 is the best 911 ever thang.
I can honestly say I scratch my head when people talk about how pretty the 993 is....

Don't get me wrong, as I'd love to kill someone and take their 930 (JK of course), but throwing stones at a post '94 Porsche is like throwing rocks at a tank......as it rolls over you.

I sort of agree with the original poster. I love the rear end of my 993. Really sexy. The front end always looked a little "surprised". I was never sold on it.
I now added the RS splitters and I like it much more. Then again the 3.2 looks MUCH better with the front spoiler, and the pre-bumper cars look better with the S splitter...

You can't really argue about opinions. But just to keep the waste of bandwidth going, I'll say that while I do wish the 993 were lighter, I think it's a better visual design than the 74-89 cars, the 964, the 996 or even the 997. Its only rival would be the original 911, which got messed with by the addition of the impact bumpers. To me, the 993 is proof that a great design can be updated successfully.
That said, those are just my opinions -- and when most people think of the 'classic 911,' they're thinking of the impact-bumper models.
And an 'actually ugly' 911 has yet to roll off Porsche's assembly line. The basic shape is pretty great.

I think that is also part of the reason 996 prices have dropped so much- that plus the fact that Porsche made so many of them...

Well I think the lack of hips on the 996 makes it more like the narrow fender long nose cars.
Then again I think alot of my "visual" appeal of the 996 comes from the 2002 GT3 Cup cars. I never really like the GT3 RSR. Think they look too fat. Same goes for the 997. Getting to fat in the *** end.
993 is nice balance, but I tend to like 964's alot more these days. Few years ago I did not like the 964's, but now I like their visual simplicty. They still car much of the classic look from back the in the old days, yet updated to be smoother and with lots of goodies under the skin. The 993 was great when I came out, but it as not reach classic levels in my mind. Then again this like saying which playboy playmate you like better. Some angles are better for each car and sometimes I want apples and oranges the next day. Blonds or brunettes? There really is not a wrong answer. ...unless you are married then the one you have is the best! Same goes for cars as women, just alot harder to trade women as often as cars.

I kind of understand where the original poster is coming from - I used to dislike anything post Carrera, but the 993 started to grow on me and just kept going. I absolutely love the lines of the 993, esp. the wide bodies. Ooh, and in cabrio format.... (homer-esque drooling...)
I'm still only lukewarm at best on the 996s (has nothing to do with air vs. water), mostly because of the crappy headlights. Why would Porsche lose the one trait that links all the way back to the 356 and early Beetles? Glad they went back with the 997s. I still think the 964 is the worst of both worlds though. The SC/Carrrera is, IMHO, the best looking car every built by anyone, anywhere, at any time. (esp. the turbos!!)
