Post Wheels in a 911SC

Can a set of wheels (and tires) fit into a 911 coupe? I am thinking about getting a 911SC and wondered how I would get race tires to the track for events. I don't have the luxury of a car trailer.

I have seen it done,it is tight and I think it was the 15" wheel.Your best bet is to find a fellow track junkie with a truck who tows a car and have him carry your tires.

I have tried it with both 16" rims on my Carrera 3 and with 17" rims with my 964 RS and they will not fit.

One option is to put them on the roof and take the rack off when you get there.

I have seen a few guys at Summit Point with creative solutions. I have seen roof racks and several small trailers. It's pretty funny to see a 2 wheeled trailer behind a 911; but it's very functional.

I did this a couple weeks ago with my 78SC Targa. I transported 6 & 7 x 16 Fuchs by placing two in the rear and two on the passanger seat. Be sure to place them in trash bags to avoid thrashing your interior.

Thanks for the replies.

Chris, did you see they attached the trailer hitch to the car? Did it look okay. I have a small tire trailer I would love to use with a 911.

It ain't elegant, but it captures the spirit of grassroots racing, I think.

Jack -

My compliments on your style! I Used the same setup when I drove my showroom stock C Pinto to the SCCA Runoffs in 1978 - except I had 6 shaved tires on the roof rack. I finished 5th, drove it home, took out the rollbar, peeled off the numbers, and sold it as a beater.

I'd be tempted to do the same on my 911 for going to DE's but I'm not sure how to protect the painted drip rails - any suggestions?

If you use stock tire sizes on 7x16's in front and 8x16's in back, you can get all 4 inside. The two 7x16's go one in the front trunk (undo strut bar if you have one) and one under the rollbar in the back. No roll bar? Then as I recall (been a long time since no rollbar...) you can scoot the passenger seat forward and get them in. Rollbar? Then one under it, and the other two on the passenger seat.
