1973.5 CIS Fuel Filter # 050 903 056 is no longer available
I have inquired and the one now offered has two threaded ends and I'm told it needs an adaptor that no one has. What to do? I found a couple at a swap meet several years ago and have one left. I did fashion one from an America aftermarket filter from NAPA-but it slipped off the bottom hose and it was too small.
The Bosch factory people told a German friend that they could remanufacture a batch of 100 (500 would be better) for someone, like me (?) to import and distribute. Is anyone interested? Or, am I missing something?

Arthur: For many years (15+?) there has been a kit available. Porsche discovered quickly that people were not replacing the rubber inlet hose at the original filter, and as a result there were some fires. The kit uses a '75 911 filter, an inlet "elbow" line (solid w/fittings) and a replacement fitting for the outlet side. It also comes with a new support plate which holds the newer filter. I used to keep a couple of these kits in stock, but haven't had my hands on one for at least eight years. Find a highly experienced parts guy at a Porsche dealership and have him try to source one. Also, try Performance Products in the San Fernando Valley, you never know what they might have. DO NOT use a non-Porsche filter!!! System pressure is much too high for any filters not specifically designed for the car. FIRE DANGER!

And definitely report back here. A recent poster indicated that he could not find the kits anywhere - not Pelican, not Performance, not anywhere. I don't recall him ever coming back and saying he found it. I also recall a few years ago coming across a supply of the earlier filters. But, that seems to have disappeared too. I actually have the kit installed. And, if memory serves, it was done by Pete's folks in Santa Monica many many years ago.

SO, IF I CAN'T FIND THE KIT, I WILL TO TAKE ORDERS FOR THE FILTER named above. I have put it on the 911 T site and have one other order for 5.
Pete, I didn't want to say but the big boys of the Porsche aftermarket just scratch their heads (I can hear it over the phone) about the kit they have heard about but don't know where to...
I bought the 911 in San Jose, Calif. in 1979 and it had been serviced Bruce Anderson's old place (which means I think it would have been replaced with the new system). I have been avid about Automotion and Tweeks and other stuff with what needs to be done, and recall not anything specific to the car and the kit. I would buy the kit if anyone has one.
And too, I am predisposed to keep it the way I have known it for 22 years. Though I have a conflict, I can't make it to the Hershey, Pa. swap meet on the 22nd of April to look for the kit or said filters.

If that doesn't work, you might try Parts Obsolete. But, they are in "semi-retirement" (i.e., spending more time racing these days) and might be a bit harder to contact.

Hi Jay: Good tips. I will also give this some thought as to a possible source... We did a large number of CIS Ts, mostly during the '80s. It was a nice, tidy conversion, the only tricky part was the special tool to put the new outlet fitting onto the end of the existing plastic line.

Pete and Jay, Thanks for your interest and good information which I shall forward to the 911 T group (there are a couple of other guys who know not of the conversion kit--and so presumably their filters are getting pretty dirty by now-unless they bought a stash!). I shall call Lennie Yee right now. I am glad a tech guy for our Milwaukee Region (Steinlifter's) suggested that I go to Rennlist. We are preparing to host an old 911 group of the region for purposes of sharing information like this.

What type of fuel filter are these? The paper type are junk after so long, but aren't these copper? I have heard that the copper ones can be cleaned and reused. Does anyone know anything about this? My T has 22000 miles on it and everything is original. It would be a shame to cobble something together. What happened with the bosch people making up a few hundred? Thanks.

I found out today that they posted part numbers to replace the kit. They are:

It cost me $105. It is identical to the kit, but it doesn't seem to have a mounting bracket. Does anyone know if I need to get a new accumulator? I still have the original. jc: Your accumulator is OK. The filter's mounting bracket is the stock support from a 1975 car. If you can find a used one you'll be in good shape. Your part numbers are consistent with those that I posted above. One of the "angled pipe" listings is actually for a screw on connector which fits the outlet side of the '75 filter. Pictured below is the tool used to press that connector onto the existing high pressure plastic line.

Pete, is the tool a porsche part or a common one? Do you or anyone else happen to know if this is written up in the factory manual or a service bulletin? I spoke to the dealer, and they found 901-108-541-00 as the bracket part number. I think that's the original and I need 911 356 541 02. What a pain this is just find some parts that are still in production. Thanks.
