Default Question re: late model Mercedes

My wife has always had a thing for the MB CLK cars, and now she wants one. We test drove one Saturday, which was the wrong thing to do because now she really wants one. I don't have a problem with the car, but I am concerned about reports that MB in general has had a lot of reliability issues with their cars lately. Is there any truth to this. Where can I find more info? The MB discussion boards I have looked at don't have much traffic. Thanks.

you could also try www.mercedesshop.com That is where I learned the most about MB. Granted mine are much older than any CLK, but that forum has a wealth of info. on it. for all models

I have tried most of them and you are correct. Not much traffic and/or interest. I can not get many issues resolved through those boards. Thank God for Rennlist. You guys have spoiled me.

Depends on the site and model in question. A lot of newer MB owners look at their car as simply a status symbol. True appreciation is often lacking. A lot of the older guys really know about their mercedes. My w126 has served me well for good while. The w126 forum on benzworld has provided me with a ton on technical information. What is a little surprizing is the amount of knowledge the w163 (M-class) owners have. Now that is a group that really knows their stuff.

Doing a three year lease on a 2007, you really can't go wrong. The warranty covers everything.

Yeah, but my wife works and I worry about her either being stranded somewhere or unable to get the car started in the am and then being unable to get to work on time. It's not always about the money.

Cowhorn-
My buddy owns an '04 E55 and LOVES the car , but has been left at the side of the road 3 times! had to have the thing towed.. Had another friend with an S class..that car was so fickle that Mercedes USA ended up buying the car back from him and giving him a new one at cost!
On the other hand, I've owned 3 late model MB's and have never had a problem. So maybe it's luck of the draw. ......I know, that was really not much help, but I've always felt that if you really love a car you'll be willing to tolerate some minor issues!!

Hmmm...Thanks LDH17. It does help. If the car was for me, I wouldn't worry at all. But the wife and cars...ugh. No offense to our female borders. I love my wife to death, but her idea of "taking care of the car" is putting gas in it when the little light comes on.
