Default WEVO GATESHIFT

Would like to hear from anyone who has installed the WEVO gateshift in a 915 transmission. It's an internal gate mechanism.

I saw it at the German Auto Fest. It was impressive. No personal experience though.

I've had the internal gateshift in my magnesium-case 915 for three years, now. More recently, I added Wevo's coupler and shifter. Their products are first rate.

Its a major upgrade and one of the three critical components that make shifting a 915 as nice as a G-50.

...& the other two are?

as an aside, I find shifting my 915 an enjoyable challenge, it responds to proper technic, and lets you know when you f*^k up.(having pretty much never driven any other 915 Porsche, I've no idea if its me or just the way it should be)

I'd say the Wevo shifter and coupler are the other two.

I too saw one at the German Auto Fest last weekend. Felt VERY cool and would be a serious upgrade to your, or my car. I do not have one in my car, but the demo shifters they had were impressive.

Absolutely true.

WEVO doesn't make inexpensive stuff but IMHO, the quality & performance are worth the price and nobody has EVER regretted spending the dough to do this.

Personally, I would do the WEVO shifter and coupler first, then add the Gateshifter if and when the tranny needs to be opened up.

Thanks all - 2nd gear synchro is bad (WEVO tech tells me a badly misadjusted clutch can contribute to this, and the clutch, when I bought the car, was in need of replacement and horribly misadjusted), so since the transmission will be out, I'm considering having the gate shift put in. Now Steve W. has me interested in doing the psj & shifter as well. My 82 SC Euro Spec. is primarily a daily driver which I intend to occasionally use on a track. Should I buy the stock 911 psj WEVO sells or their racing psj for $100 more?

I appreciate Jaws comment on the shifting challenge. I learned the trans quickly, and it seems mainly a matter of muscle memory as far as finding the gears go. Basically, I'd like to know if adding the three WEVO components will enable faster shifts (I suspect not since the synchro rings will still be stock) as well as more precise. If it's just an increase in precision I'm not sure whether I want to spend the money (beyond getting the existing synchros rebuilt) since I'm able to find the gears just fine, never grinding them. I'd just prefer not to wait quite as long, between 1st & 2nd in particular, between gears while the synchros do their job.

David:

Use the stock psj for a 911 that is a daily driver.

The WEVO parts impart a shifting precision to the 915 that these transmissions never had previously. These components do NOT permit one to shift the transmission faster (without consequences) due to the design of this baulk-ring type syncromesh.

In short, make deliberate shifts without rushing them and your transmission can last as long as the engine,....

Thanks Steve - and Jack, beautiful car! I scanned the article & will definitely peruse it later. I had a second conversation with Hayden, a tech. at WEVO who I spoke with yesterday. He confirmed my quess that shift speed would'nt be increased (shortly thereafter Steve further confirmed this), and
I've decided to forgo the gate shift mod. and go with just the psj and shifter. While Steve says to go with the stock 911 psj, since the engine/trans will be out of the car I've decided to go for th $80 extra overkill and have the racing psj put in. Hayden says there's no downside to using this part in a daily driver.
Again thanks for all your responses. This newbie really appreciates it!
