Default Robs 911ST Cafe' Racer

This project started with a very nice and original signal orange 71 T, which I have learned from past experience is the best starting point for this kind of project, I spent my budget improving car and not fixing rust holes on a worn out beater. I know some of you may think the car was to nice to modify, I agree.

The theme of the car was not to build a perfect replica of a factory ST,( no two were alike anyway) but something that could have been ordered from the factory by someone with “connections”, who was not a professional racer, but wanted a car he could use weekends at the track and during the week as a comfortable daily driver.

The car is mostly all steel bodied including fenders and bumpers, which were cut and formed to the fenders, and slotted for the Carrera oil cooler. It has aluminum rear deck lid and a factory style balsa wood reinforced fiberglass hood.

The original 2.2 engine, has been removed and moth balled. It now has a hot rod 3.2 with 46 PMOs, Amber rain shields, R shroud and "tin ware" being built

Some of the classic R/ST goodies are the off center through the hood fuel filler and a 911R style oil tank, with external filler cap; The RSR welded in strut braces, drilled engine lid hinges and door handles.

Custom door panels. They are similar to the light weight RS panels but have basket weave inserts and 356 arm rests and door pulls, and 914 latches.

The original sport seats were rebuilt and recovered in Houndstooth fabric, and incorporate electric seat warmers, for those late fall drives. I’d collected a few parts over the years that I wanted to include in the car, such as the very rare Talbot flag mirrors, Four Cibie hood lights, vintage Abarth steering wheel, dash mounted stopwatches and a Halda Tripmaster.

TRE has managed the project and Kundensport paint and body.

Doug&Julie, That is a sweet car. I can't think of a better daily driver than a 964. Those cars can take a beating.

Thanks. ..and AWD, too. Julie and I both have Subies as daily drivers, but I see this one being used more and more for such duties.

C2 with snow tires is hella good in the snow - I drove mine year round and without any hesitation would say it was the best handling snow vehicle I have ever driven... Very much a "point and shoot" with complete control
