Does anyone have experience cleaning CIS injectors that are pretty clogged? Is it worth giving it a try versus buying them?
What effective methods are there? I tried cleaning them with a Carb Cleaner Spray can with the straw inserted into the injector. This applied pressure to it but they did not improve their spray pattern. Any alternatives!
I've used acetone with air pressure by making a small tube that threads onto the top of the injector, filling with solvent and then connecting air pressure to the top.
You can also put them in an ultrasonic cleaner. They are very simple units, just be careful not to damage the little valve so that the spray pattern is not degraded.
Steve's advice is spot on and that would be my first choice, especially since they can test the injector to see if it is even worth saving.
If a Bosch Service Center is not available in your area, I have had success in soaking injectors in Berryman's B-12 Chemtool. It comes in pint cans and is very effective at removing gum, varnish and carbon. Wear nitrile gloves because it's pretty nasty stuff.
I sent my 951 injectors to Marren Fuel Injection in Derby, CT 06418(49 Burtville Ave., Unit 3A). Phone # (203) 732-4565. They rebuilt, blueprinted and balanced my injectors for $23.75 each. I was very happy with the service and turnaround time, they sent me a sheet with the spray patterns before and after.
Arne.
CIS injectors can be ultrasonicly cleaned, normally with good results. They take quite a bit longer in the cleaning tanks than other types due to their design.
We charge $15 each and provide before & after test data. Most other injector shops can also service them.
Witchhunter,
That sounds great! Just to give a little detail: If I take a carb cleaner spray can (new) and pressurize the injectors with the straw stuck inside the injector, I would see a spray pattern that looks like three or four strings coming out to the sides. I know a spray can will not have enough pressure, I imagine thats what they look like during idle, since the car can accelerate full throttle pretty nicely, but idle is a mess.
Anyways, I'll take'em out this weekend in order to ship them to you. Thanks!
