Default 930 brake pads

Hi! I'm new on this board and live in the UK. I was wondering if any of you guys could give me some good recommendations for 930 brake pads, front and rear? I have a supersport 3.2 so it has 930 brakes. I want pads that are primarily good for road use but which will double up as a great track pad. Do Ferodo do decent pads for the 911? I have used DS2500 on my Nissan 200SX and liked them very much but can't locate any for the 911 in the UK. Many thanks

Steve Weiner (Rennsport Systems) can fix you up with Ferodos. They're what I have on my 3.2 (with 930 brakes) based upon his recommendation, and they're great.

Two options,

Porsche sells a PAGID pad for the 944Turbo (early model). This pad has a nice compound and must NOT be confused by the 964 TEXTAR pad.

They are all using the same pad size - 930, 964 or early 944Turbo - so make sure it is the PAGID one.

You can also buy the PAGID blue RS4-2, very good for your usage and good on the disc too. Better than your road pad, lasts well and costs more money.

Cheers,

Will 964 pads fit too then? The pads on the car at the moment are Power Train on the rear (cheap after market I think) and the fronts are I think Textar and have a number on that might be KB26089. Does anyone recognise this number? If so, are they good? Don't seem terribly effective at the moment and the car grumbles a lot after breaking a couple of times. Also think that the off side caliper is not working effectively on the inside edge of the disc as it has some rust on it, not good I know and I will try to sort this this weekend.

Kristian, I'm sorry but I can't say with 100% certainty...they are either DS2000 or DS2500 (...for some reason, I 'think' they might be DS2000). I might be way off base, but are the DS2000s still
available? For some reason, I thought I read where they were, but then again, I might just be a 'wealth of mis-information' ! Check with Steve Weiner, he'll steer you in the right direction. I see you're new here (welcome btw!), but if you haven't already picked up on it, Steve is as experienced & knowledgable as they come and you won't go wrong following his advice.

Kris:

I'd suggest the DS 2500's which have superceded the DS 2000's.

These are excellent pads for everything except heavy track or competition usage. Easy on rotors, great from cold, and low dust.

I have the DS 2500's and they are great pads. Like Steve said, no problems throughout all temp ranges during aggressive street driving.

Just out of interest, I looked at the pads yesterday. They are the Textar pads with a number T400 FF on them and also KBA 60282. They are std 964 pads I think as there is a Porsche part number on them of 964.351.930.03. My brakes make a lot of noise at present and rumble even after light useage. Is this likely to be down to the pads? Cheers

Would the DS2500's work on a 911SC for use at driver's ed events on tracks like Road America or other heavy breaking tracks (non-competition)?

Kristian:

Those sound like OEM Porsche pads to me. Brake noises can be caused by rotor finish/wear as well as the type of pads.

Further, if you have any taper wear, that can also cause "rumble" as the pads contact the rotor surface unevenly.

I'd suggest that you evaluate the thickness and condition of your rotors before you install new pads as they might also require replacement.

Mike:

I recommend Pagid Orange for SC's & Carrera's that are used at the track.

In your case, the DS2500's will not hold up on those small brakes when used for DE events.

Hi Steve,

When you say taper wear, do you mean uneven wear on the surface of the disc? I think my discs have this. Also, there is about 0.5 to 1mm ridge at the top (outer edge) of the disc and the back of the disc on the same edge has some rust (only on the edge) and also pitting. I'm thinking they need replacing but not exactly sure. What is the minimum thickness for these discs? Also, do you recommend the std Zimmerman discs or is there a better alternative? Many thanks

Kristian:

Taper wear refers to the uneven wear that occurrs from the leading to the trailing edge of the pads.

That outer lip on the rotors is normal. Don't worry about the pitting.

Minimum thickness for 930 rotors are 30mm (fronts) and 26mm (rears).

For mostly road use, the OEM Zimmerman's are OK.

Thanks Steve! Off on my honeymoon on Sunday to the Maldives. Coming back after ten days and then driving out to France and the Nurburgring for the second leg of the honeymoon. Looking forward to the 'ring!
