![Question](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I'm posting to hopefully get 2 questions answered.
1 - Where on the engine is the ID # stamped?
2 - Is there a site that identifies how many 911's were built each year?

Depends what you mean by engine ID? The unique engine identification number(such as 6656001) is stamped on the right hand fan support (looking into the engine bay). The engine type number (such as 911/82) is stamped on the underneath of the engine in one corner (can't remember now which corner - think it's the oil pump corner)
One good source for how many of each, in each year is "Porsche 911 red book" 1965 to 2005 (this update just published - previously to 1999) by Patrick Paternie ISBN 0-7603-0723-7 - probably about $6?

I had been wondering the same question about where the engine serial number was, but hadn't asked.
I am working on a friend's 1968 911 USA Coupe chassis# 11830318 with a mystery engine.
The engine is a later model with CIS injection, so I assume it is a 3.0 from an SC. But, the engine sounds much different than any SC engine and it is FAST!
The engine serial number is *63D2379* or maybe that D is a zero, I cant tell.
Is this a SC engine from the US that has upgraded cams? or maybe a euro spec engine?
Whatever it is, I recommend it!! --Sterling in Atlanta

Hi There two 914s
I've had a look in the 911 Red Book and it looks like your friends' 1968 U.S. spec coupe has a 1970/1 911S engine. U.S. and European spec 911S engines were the same at that time 180bhp @ 6,500rpm, 147 ft/lb torque @ 5,200rpm. The 911S is an icon of the pre-1973 cars so the engine is a beauty. The CIS injection system I think is correct for the S of that year.

Hey everyone, I searched the net and through the forums to no avail. I bought my 71' 911T coupe (w/AC, Webers, SSI heat exchangers) a few months ago and could not find my engine serial number anywhere. Any hints? Also, below are the numbers I could see. What do they mean and are they correct for my car? Thank you in advance.
