Question Motorcycle lift for engine removal?

Anyone have any experience using a cycle lift for engine removal and reinstall? I am considering buying one for this specific use, if pratical. Any tips on features needed or not required, of specific models that you have used? All input appreciated, as it seems like a great idea to me.

We use one on the 356 race car (ATV lift) works very well; much more stable than a floor jack.

Question

OK, gotta show my ignorance here! What is the difference between a cycle lift and the ATV version?

Glad I read this post, I was thinking about selling my bike lift....since I sold by bike a clouple of weeks ago.

As for the previous question about the difference between mororcycle and ATV lift, I think they are one in the same, all I have looked at are advertised as "Mototryclel/ATV"

Yep, I'm pretty sure they are the same. I see them adverdised all the time at Pep-boys and Checker for under $50.00.

I'll let you know next Saturday...I'm dropping my motor for the first time, I ordered one from Sears @ about $89. HF and Pep Boys have cheaper ones, but this had positive safetly lock at three different heights and some kind of ratcheting hold-down straps. I pick the jack up tomorrow, so I've not seen it yet.

Thanks Ed, I will be looking forward to your observations using this setup. Seems to me like a good motorcycle lift is several hundred dollars, so I can't wait to see how your removal goes.

I got an aluminum one at Sam's Club. Sure you don't need Al, but don't you want an Al one? Really, its nice because you can easily stand it up on end or hang it when done and it takes up less room in my garage for that reason. Looks kinda perty too!
