Tint Removal
Hey guys and gals...
The tint on my 82 SC isn't the greatest or legal, so I am removing it. I just don't think REALLY dark tint looks good on a white car either. There are also some scratches due to age and from when the car was repainted and windows were removed.
Decided to have it done by professionals (especially because of the rear defrost). How much have you folks paid to have the job done? Currently, I was advised to take it somewhere and they will charge $160. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Chris

I just got an estimate myself to tint the rear sides and back window. Mine also has to have the current tint removed. Estimate to remove tint was $75 and $150 to re-tint everything.

Wow, you guy's get good prices on tint.
Peeling it off is the toughest part. I've been told to spray the glass w/an ammonia based glass cleaner and press a garbage bage onto it. Turn the car on, crank the heat up and let it sit for a while. once it's nice and hot inside, peel the garbage bage off and clean the windows again with the ammonia based cleaner.

I've seen the do-it-yourself giudes - I'd just feel better having someone with experience do it. $160 is a little high, but I feel comfortable getting a professional job and NOT messing anything up, especially with the rear window defroster. Thanks for the input.

Professional? I think for the most parts they're all 18YO and could care less if they leave scrappers, squeegees, and water run off on your back deck. And then, literally throw your keys on top of the car and tell you it's ready.
I'm sure it's different in a big town, you can pick and choose, who knows. But no one will ever be in my back seat with shoes on again.

The place I'm taking it to was recommended by my body shop as "the only place to go" in San Diego. Apparently they do high-end cars. Well, when I get there, I'll ask about protection, care, etc. If I don't get a warm and fuzzy - I'm outta there!

Guys did a great job...took about 2-hours and some waiting for the back window to let go of the film. But the defroster works and the car looks a lot cleaner. Man its a lot brighter inside!!
