Default CAR COVER HELP

I'm looking for a good "water proof" car cover for my 911 carrera which has to sit outside. Anyone have a good connection on them.
Thanks
Rich

Unfortunately, the best "water proof" cover is wax. I have talked with many people who have tried to do what you're about to do, and it doesn't work. Covers have never been intended to be a garage for a car, and the best thing you can do is get a daytime-only cover to protect the finish from the sun. To use a nighttime cover requires huge work; you have to clean the car each time you put on the cover. You have to remove the cover when it's windy, and you can't use the cover if the car has been close to the beach (the cover will make the paint hazy), or if the car is damp or wet. Your intent is good, but the reality is that the car gets far more damage outside on sunny days than at any other time. Good luck with finding a "house" for your car!

Indeed, you can get a truly good cover for your car, but these are really intended for protection from UVs, dust, birds, misting, and the like. NO car cover protects the finish from rain. The best thing for an uncovered car in rain is a good wax (I like P21S), and then a wash after the rain's over. But, use of a good cover for all other times, along with fastidious cleanliness (or the cover can scratch the finish if it's dirty), will keep your car's finish looking its best for a long time.

I agree with the above.

A car cover is a really good idea, but mostly IMO to protect from sun damages.

A car cover isn't going to do any good for your car in the rain. And any wet car cover is a PITA to deal with. Not worth it. As the others say, a good coat of wax.

Ditto.

Look into a permanent or temporary cover such as a carport extending from the house, or a plastic roofed thing on metal hoops. You could put the latter up only in the rainy season - they are not so bad looking nowdays as the plastic roofs are available in differnt colors and patterns.

No cover works as good as a garage, but Coast makes awesome stuff...

I use a sturdy cover to prevent the kids from doing any damage (bikes, scooters) while its parked in the garage. However, it is a pain to make sure its clean evertime i wrap it up. Nothing worse than wrapping a clean car with a dirty (scratchy) car cover.

Hum, I have my car in a carport and covered. I do make sure he is clean when I cover him after a drive (not a daily driver). I have often thought that I shouldn't cover him because of slight paint scratches. I did take my cover to a laundry mat before I purchased Skippy to make sure it was clean before I put it on him. It is a Noah.

We are thinking of selling our house and buying a new one with a 3 car garage or we're not buying! We're more concerned about the garage than anything...so if we do, do you cover a car in a garage??

I only cover my car in the garage during my summers off to "protect" it (yeah, right!) against my kids' bikes and razor scooters zooming in/out of the garage. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother with a cover for a garaged car. Besides, when it's uncovered, you get to sneak a peek every now and then ....c'mon, you know you do!

While I do agree with all the above.... sometimes you must cover your car.
I suggest pelicanparts Driveworks car cover guide, I have and use the
Coverking Stormshield (I think that is the name). My car is in a garage
but on my old SC I had the same cover outside and with careful use
I had no problems. Careful use is wiping the car off before covering
and always waxing the car with a very good wax.

Good Luck

I agree with all of the comments above and add this. Most covers have seams running from nose to tail. The Stormshield cover I have has two on each side. These seams will chafe the paint on the roof and on the fenders if the cover moves at all - slight wind will do it. It is particularly apparent on a dark color, like black or dark blue. I don't know why they don't cover the stitching of the seams on the inside.
