OK the important stuff now. What are you listening to. How is it set up. Where are speakers and components? Cost of system and was it DIY?

I start with the JVC deck and Clarion amp. I reach over and turn them off...the best sound is the roar of the engine as it revs quickly past 3000 all the way to 6500, and then it gets better as you shift and the sound of the wind blowing past the sunroof. And to top it all off, I have a real nice screen to watch the trees go by in a blur...
Sorry...just got caught up in the moment.

JVC, Clarion, Rockford Fosgate....simple system.

I'm with H.D. on turning off the system and enjoying the motor, but:

One of the nicer systems I've heard in a 911 was one with an Alpine head, a/d/s power, Focal components (speakers) in factory locations, and two 8" subs in a custom box in the back seat foot wells.

Nice thing about the system was it was simple and could be turned back to stock (no cutting was done) if need be.

I've also seen nice sub cabinets sitting on the folded down rear seat in factory fabrics. That looks nice if done well.

Rob,

Myself along with a number of other rennlisters have utilized the talents of Rod Birch. Check him out at www.caraudioinnovations.com

Custom subwoofers make a huge difference in top down crusing when not listening to engine concerts as described by H.D.

i'm as pro-motor as the next guy, but i was pretty glad that the PO of my carrera was a complete stereophile. here's what he did: he dropped an eclipse cd player in the dash with a ppi amp powering two mids in the front doors and two small tweets, w/ two 6 by 9 mids in the rear parcel chelf and then for added kicks he had a custom box put in the front trunk w/ a 10" sub and an expansion chamber on it. In all the other cars i have been in with a big system, the bass hits from the rear of the car, in mine it hits you in the face. is this a good thing you may ask? answer is yes, but don't expect to fit much in the front trunk. good luck

I installed my 10+ year old Alpine CD head unit, with my 10+ year old Yamaha 40x4 amp under the seat and a set of brand new A/D/S 5 1/4 separats in the door and Alpine 4x6 component separats in the stock package shelf in the rear. I didn't do any cutting and I put the tweeter on the dash with some sticky tape instead of the the tweeter placement in the door. I'd like to put a single 10" sub in the car, but can't find a place where I want to mount a second amplifier.

I'm running the stock BP head unit, the stock (optional) BP cd changer, stock amp, and I put in Focal components in the front doors, with Kenwood duals in the rear shelf. Components and advice courtesy of Rod Birch, as referenced above. Invaluable.

Kenwood KRC-509s AM-FM/Cassette in dash
Kenwood KDC-C717 10-disc changer in glovebox space-
--had to remove plastic glovebox shell. Also had to drill a hole to secure changer to dash bracket. But glovebox door closes all the way.
4x6 Polks on rear deck and 5 1/2 Polks in doors, both factory locations

Cost-about $850 list--I got on sale for $400.

Hi JGordan, I'm planning on upgrading my stock system (...everything goes since it's now cassete only & the speakers really suck), but want to add some model of Blaupunkt head unit (w/ a changer & amp in the front hood compartment), and I've been thinking about the Focal (in the doors), and ??? in the rear. Which specific models do you have, and how do you like them? Thanks...Keith

These two posts might help, plus at least one at Pelican.

Fabspeed Supercups!

Sorry, I couldn't resist!

I have Kenwood but pretty much can't hear it...

In my 911, I threw the stereo out (yep, that car has Porsche flat-6 loud 'speaker' in back too!

Best music I can think of.

I'm with Flying Finn.

I've got a factory Blaupunkt with controls that are worse than those for the heating system and I've yet to get interested in mastering them.

Besides, what if something goes wrong with the dilithium crystals and you don't hear it?
