OK
I did do a search but came up with nothing. Does anyone know where the gong relay is located? Is it in the front trunk area or is it under the dash? I seem to be at a loose on this one.

The relay has a small speaker in the top of it. It makes the repeating "gong" chime when the key is left in the igniton and the door is opened or lights or turn signal is left on. Hence the term gong relay.

Ok I have been told it might be behind the oil level gauge. I pulled the gauge and found three relays there but none of them are it. Is it possible that an 86 carrera came with out a gong relay?

Bentley calls it a warning relay, as far as I know it only makes noise when the key is in the ignition, and the door is opened. It is behind the fuel/oil level gauge, along with the power window relay, windsheild washer relay and the turn signal/emergency flasher relay. If none of the relays on yours make noise when you have the key in the ign. and the door is open, maybe someone has removed it, or it is bad. It came with the chime/warning relay buzzer.

I looked behind the oil level gauge and only found three relays and no empty sockets which leads me to believe that the car did not come with one. Is there an options code sticker somewhere on the 911 like the 944?

Hi, the relay is part# is 911 618 102 00, it is also called the seatbelt relay, it should operate, when the keyis in the ignition and a door is opened, it should also buzz when the key is inserted, and turned to the start/run possition, it will buzz for a few seconds, to remind you to buckle-up, after it quits, it will then operate when the door is opened, till it is shut. This is assuming that it is still functional, and no PO has disabled it. It really sounds sort of sickly at times, and a lot of people have disabled it in one way or the other. Good luck.

Ok that helps. I had ordered one from parts heaven but it had a 928 part number on it and looked just like the 944 "gong relay" so on the 911 it buzzes? One last question, once you have the gauge pulled which of the three relays is it looking in? Also How would someone disable it?

Unplug it, disconnect a wire or two, several ways, I know mine was the one closest to the outside edge of the car but it could be arranged differently on yours, yep they have somewhat of a sickly buzz at times that is why a lot of people have them disabled. I looks like a regular relay, but it willhave that part# I gave you on its side. You can also see the relays from the trunk side if you look toward the fuel gauge right beside the drivers side hood hinge.

That relay only activates the seat belt buzzer. It is completely separate from the door-open-with-lights-on warning circuit. I know because I just went through this whole exercise last month.
