17" wheels on 3.2
I have a 1988 3.2 Carrera with stock 16" fuch wheels (205 front and 225 rear). I have always wanted to keep the car looking as original as possible but am frustrated that many of the new tires don't come in anythinig less than 17" eg, Russo and the new Pilots. I am thinking of changing my wheels to 17" and shall be grateful for some advice as to which of the later Porsche wheels might fit. At the moment, I have a friend with a set of 17" 993 cups - will they fit ?

The 17" fuchs are not readily available where I come from, ie Singapore, which is why I am looking at the stock wheels from the later Porsches. I could import the 17" Fuch wheels but that would be too costly. So does anyone know if the 993 Cups fit or some suggestion on later 17" stock wheels used on the 964s or 993s ????

I've got exactly the same problem. Need new tyres soon but no clue which ones to go with the Sixteens. Loathe the idea of having to change the wheels (looks and cost), so in a bit of a quandary.

17" Cup wheels work great, as you can see on my '87 (shows change from 16" to 17" wheels). Spacers were needed: About 2.5 cm in the front and maybe 3-3.5 cm in the rear.

I had aftermarket 17" Cups
Didn't need spacers. Rubbed a bit on the left front fender, but only during certain corners at the track. Cured with fender roll.
They were aftermarket wheels, no spacers. Liked them a LOT.
Miss my 3.2, but only until the variocam kicks in...

Derrick, you probably purchased a set of Mille Miglia Cup replicas that are actually made in the proper offset for the earlier 911s. They're very nice looking wheels, although a bit on the heavy side.

Spacers and aftermarket wheels are a kludgy way to do it. They can be downright dangerous under certain conditions.
Why not do it right w/ Kinesis or Fikse or HRE or Simmons in the correct o/s

I have a 3.2 w/ factory 17" Cup 1's with correct offset (no spacers..).
Readily available too. They are of course much heavier though compared to my 16" Fuchs which I keep for Autocrossing.
Only issue with the 17's was a minor rubbing on the right front wing; fixed by rolling the lip under.
The 993 rims you mention, as I understand, won't fit a 3.2.

lewis9113.2,
You cannot have factory Cup wheels w/o spacers, factory o/s is 7x17 ET55, 8Jx17, ET52, 9x17ET55
A pre'89 911 wants 7-8" ~ET 24 front and 9"~ET 15 rear
If you have Cup look wheels that fit w/o spacers
then they are aftermarket castings,
Yes they are quite heavy and they are candidates for looking like the first pic in my previous post.
The advantage of 17s is a better selection of wider tires w/o greatly increasing the o/d of the tire. For performnce use 17 or even 18 is the way to go.

ZAMIRZ, I bet you're right. Now that you mention it, Mille Miglia sounds like the correct brand.
Bill V, I agree with you about a set of 17" FM-10's or similar. Those are some incredible looking wheels. They are not cheap, however.
Here's a pic of the FM-10's.
