Nightmare buy on Peecarmarket
Now I need to start fixing the problems and have begun with transaxle leak, etc.
The biggest issue right now is that the car rides horribly, the front tires strike inside the wheel wells when the wheel is turned near the limit, and the car pulls to the right under braking.
There is also a little shake on the front end. I only had too drive the car 50 feet to know something is very wrong.
Here's what I know.
Bilstein inserts were used in Boge struts but are probably OK as one other member has suggested
Turbo tie rods were installed but I can see that they are not evenly adjusted. Adjustment has made for a straight wheel. Spring retainers for the boots are missing.
Rear sway bar drop links are both bashed. These were obstructing the movement of the trailing arms.
The wheels are NOT original to the car and the fronts may be the wrong size in terms of offset.
The car was lowered way beyond even European spec both front and rear.
I adjusted one of the thrust washers in the front left today as it was definitely not snug enough.
I also have an 87 so I know how these cars drive when they are right-fantastic. I also recently completed strut, shock, and sway bar bushing replacement on the 87 to great results.
Right now I suspect that the issue could be that an idiot used the wrong strut inserts and this, in addition with improperly adjusted tie rods could be causing these issues.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
The ride height adjustment screws seem to be at factory spec.

I just can't imaging what can be causing the wheel well strikes besides improper inserts.

I’ve also installed the turbo tie rods and ER decambered ball joints , although that was some time ago, isn’t there a bumpstop that needs to
be installed somewhere ?
Jack up the car and turn the steering wheel lock to lock and look for any interference , maybe a good alignment will help!

if the bump stops are missing that will for sure

Damage to the lower rocker and oil line, both rear bumpers, and the entire front gasket for the targa has been carved with a blade of some kind.
Just the parts for these repairs alone will be over $2000.
NEVER buy a car you don't test drive and see on a lift is the moral of this story. NEVER. I hope you guys don't ever have a similar experience.

Just found this while getting ready to remove strut cartridge. The contact to the brake reservoir is not just disconnected, it's broken inside the cap! On top of that the reservoir is almost empty!

all cars need some sorting. I budget 10-20% of buy price on my older cars not including "Mods" I will do.
my 71T I bought blind off BAT, i feel i got lucky on it. It didn't need too much, but I did a lot (mods category). I'm not sure Id ever do that again. I'm very picky and OCD but, not so much about cosmetics, mostly about general condition and maintenance.
I'm surprised, really, I didn't get more 'real' buyers hitting me up on my 89. What you saw is what you got and the car is very very sorted. The first guy that saw it live bought it. (well 2nd, I think first guy wasn't sold on buying a G... ). Luckily a local (like 10 mins drive from me) enthusiast. I know he'll enjoy it and probably clean it up even more.
If the car is overall solid these things can all be fixed. What scares me most of the older cars are the "sins of the past" hack repair and service jobs. For a long time G body were "just old cars" and people didn't pay the $ to maintain them right. I'm always nervous when I peel the onion if I'm going to find surprises. I've been really lucky on the 3 old cars I have.

if the inserts are correct, send to Bilstein for them re-valve them with digressive dampening - same if you need new ones
tie rod end looks ovalized in the pic
at least a new brake res. cap is cheap...
Good Luck with it - you are performing a public service by saving the car

A pro tells me that the inserts won't matter. It's more about the offset.
The width of the back wheels are off spec for an 89 according to the Porsche manual and Bentley.
The front wheels are OK.
Offset seems to be the key. I believe the Fuchs are from an earlier car and so not quite right which would be consistent with what the seller did to the car.
Ride height calculation according to Bentley and 101 is way off spec and I will correct what the idiots did.
