see the blurry blemish at the bottom of the pressure plate?

check it out and post a good closeup of that

also... check manf. ID and part no.s on all of this stuff - I am wondering if a fake could have been installed

I dunno if Sachs has a special mark like Fuchs does

I've never seen nor heard of this level of disintegration but I don't run a shop

I agree . I was just looking for reasons it would disintegrate so badly. im not sure what they would say after it has been in a car for 10 years but I would think you have nothing to lose at this point .. except time maybe as the summer is growing shorter.

It looks to me like the pressure plate/clutch is in crooked. The pressure plate is making contact with the Tranny at the bosses supporting the fork. If the pressure plate was right there would be scratches all around or none.

I'm guessing one of the forks was in the throw out bearing groove and the other was out. I can't believe it would go together like that but I can't see how the pressure plate would not pull out evenly all around.

I think it was an installation error.

I would inspect that fork carefully. And make sure the transmission shaft isn't bent.

hi...have a look at this ring inside the pres.plate Never mind mine drawing not strait;-)Also take the cir-clip out i wonder if there is the spacer which needs to be there?
Also the damage to the bell housing is there due to the overextending the pressure plate. As i have mentioned before i have seen this and i said in another page here.

"the rubber is your clutch stop so you do not press the pedal too far and you do not overextend the to bearing on the pressure plate.".

In your case i think either defective plate.-missing space washer on installation. Also clean everything ,replace the transmission guide tube and replace the inside seal and mainly the little o ring .You will see it once you get it of.
To get it off remove the phillips screws and gently tap with hammer so it spins .Then you can use any hook to pry it out..on installation do not forget to lube it -the o ring.

Hi Johnny..we have to remember he drove it for 3000 miles..the only think on installation is the spacer otherwise he would not be able to shift at all

Randy the guide tube , o ring and other parts ivan mentioned are extra.
Also the rubber piece you found on the floor MUST be in place. As you can see the damage to the pressure plate and fork bosses when you push the clutch too far.
I'm not sure if that was route cause but it sure did not help

Ivan a question. .. is the grease you put on the guide Tube and bearing the same as spline grease ? Or is that different.

Randy I'm heading out on vacation tomorrow for a week. I'm fully confident you will be putting the engine back in by the time I get back.

Ps don't rush to order parts. Look over the engine and see what you want to do while it's out.

BTW to go from a clutch pedal issue to having the engine dropped and replacing your own clutch is great work for somone who has never done this before
Big congrats and you have my vote for enthusiast of the year
