Sorry randy I must have removed the sway bar and forgotten. Looking where it is on your pic it is obvious I removed it. I obviously just forgot.
If you have an extra jack you can just take the weight of the transmission if you are concerned about the shift rod as you undo the transmission bolts as you lift the car. . It should have wheels though as you are going to pull the engine back as you lift the car.

watch for any wires or hoses you missed while slowly pulling the motor back and down
have a helper with cell phone ready
the motor sits real well on the heat exchangers
won't hurt to have a list of those wires & hoses for the re-install

when I did mine I just undid that small 10mm and the piece of metal holding it in, then it falls out. if I remember correctly I took it right out , I think its the speedometer pickup. see the small hole to the right in the pic ? there should be a bellows over it, if you pull that off its the black wire you see with the connections to the speedo you disconnected, its these same wire so if you want you can leave it in place on the transmission and just pull the bellows off and the wire out .

now its only 4 bolts or so into the transmission ,,, did you peek through the inspection hole ?
looks pretty good too and dry .. just dirty more than anything ..Depending on what you want to do while its out you could be back in and running by the end of the weekend.

Thanks! I'll clean it up for sure, doesn't drip oil really, just a few small weeps. The guy I bought it from just sent me 2 more receipts from 2006. Total of $3000 in work. All brakes, distributor, tune up, and odds and ends. Just got them today.
As I look it over it appears there are 3 bolts plus 2 hex bolts for the starter? Is that correct. DO I remove the starter?
Grabbing a cold one now.!! l

yes randy pop the starter off I think its an M10 hex then support the transmission and undo the other bolts . they may be different lengths so take notice just in case.. remember as you pull the transmission back ( huffing and puffing ) the cross shaft will turn and the clutch lever underneath with it as it unhooks from the release bearing, make sure the levers aren't binding underneath the transmission on your dolly and can turn or it will fight you.
I remember having to take some of the exhaust off but it may be my imagination.
also post bigger pics so we can get a good look .
