Question

Doesn't Porsche Classic make engine blocks for classic air cooled cars?

They make some for Singer, but it seems like they make some for Singer only.

That's not quite correct. PMNA, not Porsche AG, is assembling engines for Singer using Singer provided parts. That is quite a bit different than Porsche AG making engines for Singer....

My understanding is they’re rebuilding/restoring them only, and no new parts are involved.

What a shame this thread is. My sincere sympathy to whoever put money down - y’all should file a class action and see if you can acquire whatever IP/hardware was created and see if someone can pick this project up. I’d love to see it actually happen.

I just ordered a brand new complete Porsche made 993 replacement engine case for $6,000ish Seems reasonable to me. They say about 10 weeks to deliver and comes ready to install with head studs etc. We'll see. I'll post some photos and my impression.

Save yourself the trouble and don't believe a word this guy says. His online store still lets you order and pay for a case that you'll never see. I'll never see my thousands of dollars spent and now his emails bounce back and his voicemail box is full. Make what you want of this but he promised to refund my money after years of waiting and now he's gone in the wind. Vaporware. Buyer beware.

This guy's username was active as of yesterday and he remains a site sponsor. If nothing else, IB should ban the guy.

i wonder if he continues to pay his sponsor fees, or if he paid once and is good for the year.

I sent a message to the moderators. I would recommend others do the same.

He was overly aggressive to even the most reasonable questions about the project. It was definitely a red flag. Even if there is enough IP to propel the project forward - I can’t see trusting the guy through any kind of business deal - I’d expect him to continue trying to take advantage of any situation with zero ethics or morals.

I still don't understand why someone with deeper pockets hasn't either taken this over (bought him out) or started their own process from scratch.

Does the math really not pencil out?

I restore/re-anodize door frames among other things and am considering making new door hoops, at least to start, and am working on that math. Definitely daunting but at some point the math has to work.
