Default Best dongle for Android Auto in GTS 4.0

Working on finalizing a purchase of a GTS 4.0 and two day drive to get car home. Any suggestions for an AA dongle to make the trip a little easier? I plan to return it shortly after the trip and code the PCM as a permanent AA solution. I have an Ottocast in my 911.2, but curious if other brands work better. The one below works, but it's not a consistent connection.

I too use Ottocast in all my cars for wireless AA. Works well most of the time. Is very aggressive on connection (beware of being on a phone while unlocking your car - Ottocast would instantly steal the show), but I suppose this is necessary for having wireless AA up when you need it and not a minute later.

If i look on Amazon it says that the car must already have AA available for this to work. Since our cars need AA to be activated does that count? I was originally going to get it unlocked with the SD card trick but a lot of people on that thread have said that you can't unlock AA on the new 2024 PCM yet.

Correct, you would need wired AA in order to use Ottocast. I believe there are wireless converters that connect as Carplay to the head unit while being able to connect to both Apple and Android devices wirelessly. I vaguely remember that some of the Carlinkit boxes do this.

This is true. Ottocast is one that allows you to get AA wireless on a platform (Porsche) that unfortunately doesn't support even wired Android Auto (only time recently I wished I had an iPhone). My question as the OP is there another option that has more reliable connectivity?

I have Ottocast running AA. The car only had wired CP. The Ottocast supports AA if only you only have wired CP.

There is the Calinkit that someone else mentioned above. I bought one for my GT4, but to be honest i basically bought it and then started the lemon process for it almost immediately after so i dont really remember how well it worked. I did already have AA activated on the car so im unsure how much that played into it, but i dont recall ever having issues with connecting to the car wirelessly. I believe its cheaper than the Ottocast as well.

I tried numerous AA adaptors for my 22 BGTS and none of them would hook up to my head unit. Even being on the phone with tech support while sitting in my car, they were all unable to get it to work. Then I found this (Carlinkit 5.0/ 4.0 / 3.0 Wireless CarPlay & Wireless Android Auto Adapter for Factory Wired CarPlay Cars (for my car the 4.0 version per recommendation from their CHAT tech)) and it has worked flawlessly. Great having the music I want and Navigation displayed on my “large” screen rather than trying to do it all from my phone. My 2 cents. Hope you find something that works for you.

Is this the one to speak of?

Not the greatest reviews. I'm going with Ottocast for my drive home. Then return and get AA running permanently via software mods per 718 forum thread.

I think a lot of these are really going to be hit or miss for some people. I wonder if a lot of it has to do with firmware version on the PCM and or version of the product. The thing i dont like about buying these from Amazon, is i dont know which one is supposed to be their latest and greatest which i assume would have the highest chance of working properly. Theres a very good chance that the one i bought was one of the cheaper ones and maybe thats why i dont remember if it worked or not.

I got an Ottocast U2-Air (which I believe is for wireless Carplay, not AA) but it doesn't support GPS passthru, so got a Carlinkit 5.0 2air instead. The Carlinkit 5.0 won't do AA unless you have native AA on the head-unit though, unlike the older 4.0 that does the conversion. Long run you'll want native AA enabled so the 5.0 might be an option then.

Not sure which Ottocast model everyone else here is talking about - just saying Ottocast doesn't really help OP when there's a bunch of models out there!

I only needed AA so I bought the Motorola dongle. Android Authority rated it highest at the time and it was on sale on Amazon. Never had an issue connecting. I'm sure Motorola/Google relationship helps with ensuring that it works as close to OEM as possible.
