Ottocast doesn't support GPS passthrough so you'll drain the phone battery faster... that's the biggest plus using Carlinkit but its slower to boot up.
Oooh interesting. So it sounds like, if i have AA active, then the 5.0 is the version to get, but if AA is still locked in the PCM then the 4.0 is the version to get is what it sounds like?

Correct. I will take a Carlink 4.0 to my 718 Euro Delivery and report back how well it works...

Yup for Carlinkit that's the way to go. 4.0 likely would work well enough since it has 5ghz wifi support, just not as fast as the 5.0 unit. So that time to screen from starting the car would be a bit longer. Given the price on them you can probably just try the 4.0 and Ottocast and see which you prefer - GPS passthrough was a big deal for me so I got my Carlinkit after the Ottocast but my experience has only been with wireless Carplay.

I just bought a 2015 Boxster GTS. Does anyone know how to get AA to work?

2015 is still a 981 model that uses PCM 3.1. PCM 3.1 does not have the software hidden for CP/AA like the PCM 4.x have in the 718/Macans etc. So you will have to get an extra board. I recently installed the mr12volt system and so far am quite pleased with it. It gives you wireless CP and AA. If you order it, and you have the XM radio installed, I recommend to order it from the Rennlist Sponsor @Roman ACS who will include the right spacers (the manufacturer's website does not include the right spacers unfortunately). It is a Sunday afternoon install and following some Youtube videos. The hardest part was to find the location to put the box. In my case, I put the box into the passenger footwell net to keep it accessible, though some people have found other places to hide it.

So far, the only drawback compared to the AA software upgrade I did on my wife's Macan is the following: Mr12Volt turns on the TV source option in your PCM. That means if you want to use AA or CP, you will need to select the TV source as input. That means if you are using Waze and want to listen to your Radio, you will have to use an AA enabled Radio app like TuneIn Radio and stream the Radio over your cellphone connection, which may use up your data plan (if you are not unlimited) and may drop if you are in an area in the mountains with no cell coverage.

Sound quality though is excellent and AA did perform well on my recent two drives I did since I installed it (one was a local 300 miles PCA tour through some areas with limited cell coverage). Here are 2 pictures of the install (note I also installed a leather center console trim and the Rennline phone holder/wireless charger):

Another option is the Isudar board, this gets installed into the PCM and provides AA/CP via wired or wireless connection. I did this for my wife's 2016 Macan PCM, works well.

Thanks. I opened that thread and BAM! 101 pages! No thanks! LOL.

This car will be used in my second home, which is to say not too often. Although I will need AA to work either just on my phone or on the screen. Hmm, actually, the car came with NAV so I could always use that (which I hear is terrible).

I'll go back and read some more. For this car I don't care if it's wired. But I don't want to spend $1-2k on a solution that's not used often.

On the other side, I plan to take a few road trips with this car, including Tail of the Dragon, so I'll need something to work. I just picked up the car today, so I have some learning to do.

If your car is your second home, why not get the best carplay/ aa solution on the market? The mr12volt kit i offer through acsbyroman.com uses your factory fiber optic system which does not degrade your audio while all others, including isudar, convert your fiber optic signal to digital, than to analog through the aux port, then back to digital. You can imagine the bitrate loss with every conversion... There is the best, and then the rest.

check out our facebook group (link in signature below). lots of pics of installs and happy users who can help you with questions.

Roman,
I think you misread my note. The car is not my second home, it will be used AT my second home. Which is to say, not used regularly. lol

I have U2-X and the latest firmware is 2023-05-16, perhaps you are talking about the U2-X pro which has 2024 firmware available ?

OP here. I tried the Ottocast U2-X Pro. I have a Pixel 7a which directions say it doesn't support and couldn't get it to work. Survived 700 mile drive but I gotta get the PCM AA hack done...
Edit: After I connected the Ottocast with my WiFi (password is 88888888 which I had to google), the Ottocast worked. I still plan to do the PCM hack, but in the meantime I've got AA which I really like.

Doesn't a 2021 GTS 4.0 have PCM 4.0 or above?
