We might be talking about the same thing. Do you have any pics to better show what you're describing? I assume 981 and 718 GT4 share the same symposer setup. IIRC, the carpet behind the seats on the 718 GT4 already has the foam removed from where the syposer hose terminates, but the hard carpet lining is still closed off. My thought was to remove the carpet as a test to determine if the intake noise would be any louder without anything blocking it. If it did, I would buy a spare carpet and cut a hole in it.

If you just remove the carpet entirely, it strangely sounds worse, I have posted this all a couple of years ago either here or on planet9 with pics

Also on a Boxster 981 GTS removing the foam/rubber slab from under the rear trunk carpet or in the hood storage area also makes it sound worse not better

Got it. I suppose that makes sense, removing the entire carpet behind the seats would let ALL of the engine noises in, good or bad, whereas cutting a hole only where the symposer terminates would isolate the induction noise. I just didn't want to cut a hole in my carpet without some sort of test first. I just need to find a spare carpet and do it.

Found your old thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/987-foru...-system-3.html

So, it looks like you first removed some of the foam surrounding the symposer, but did not cut any holes in the carpet "board", and noted an improvement in induction noise. Then, awhile later, you also drilled a ~1" hole in the carpet "board" and noted another improvment.

Would you say the foam removal or the hole caused the biggest increase in induction noise? Thanks

both helped, now thinking about a short megaphone funnel on the end of the symposer tube

there is also a very good thread on the 718 forum

Ha, I had a similar thought but am clueless when it comes to acoustic principles or engineering. I'll PM you as to not derail from the wing discussion. Thx
