We might be talking about the same thing. Do you have any pics to better show what you're describing? I assume 981 and 718 GT4 share the same symposer setup. IIRC, the carpet behind the seats on the 718 GT4 already has the foam removed from where the syposer hose terminates, but the hard carpet lining is still closed off. My thought was to remove the carpet as a test to determine if the intake noise would be any louder without anything blocking it. If it did, I would buy a spare carpet and cut a hole in it.

Also on a Boxster 981 GTS removing the foam/rubber slab from under the rear trunk carpet or in the hood storage area also makes it sound worse not better

If you just remove the carpet entirely, it strangely sounds worse, I have posted this all a couple of years ago either here or on planet9 with pics

So, it looks like you first removed some of the foam surrounding the symposer, but did not cut any holes in the carpet "board", and noted an improvement in induction noise. Then, awhile later, you also drilled a ~1" hole in the carpet "board" and noted another improvment.
Would you say the foam removal or the hole caused the biggest increase in induction noise? Thanks
