TheSmokingTire Comparison: Porsche Cayman GTS vs Chevy Corvette Z51
Say what you will about Matt, but I enjoyed this comparison! He's a big guy, so I just hope I look more at home in the driver's seat of my CGTS than he does!

I totally agree that the "2 sets of golf clubs" requirement on the Vette totally ruined the rear design. I did put my name on both the GT4 and Z06 list, but I always wanted the GT4 more. Glad I got the GT4 allocation.

I enjoyed the comparison and Matt did a decent job of capturing the less tangible differences.
I went from a 2014 Cayman S manual to a 2015 C7 manual. I was immediately disappointed and 2 months later I was back in a 2016 Cayman S.
The C7 was very fast, looked good, sounded great and rode really well. But I never enjoyed it nearly as much as my 2014 Cayman S.
It just didn't put a smile on my face the way the cayman did, and it's hard to quantify or articulate, but if I had to put it in a word I would say sloppy compared to precise.
I suspect that for some of us, the C8 would still feel that way compared to a 718, but to be fair I haven't driven one.
At a minimum, it certainly looks sloppy to me.

This is an excellent comparison, and there's no question that the Corvette is the value in performance, maybe even more than it used to be. The lack of manual transmission is a huge deal breaker to me, but the quality improvements to the Vette's interior compared to ten years ago is impressive. i totally agree that the butt of the Vette is awkward at best, to me it's hideous.
My favorite take was when Matt talked about how nice any Porsche is without adding a lot of options. The dealer makes you feel like a cheapskate if you don't spend at least $20k on options, but it's not really necessary.

Cayman is definitely not the value option but I'll pay the Porsche tax for the reasons they mentioned in the video.
I also don't mind paying for individual options since I can spec it exactly how I want to. Gotta pay to play.

I think they need to lose the 2 golf club requirement (odd), refine the shape and calm the interior. The car shouts at you inside and out - no thanks. To be fair it is hard to compete with 25 years of refinement on the Cayman. Porsche is very good at iterative changes to their original design, they keep the old cars looking good and new ones are instantly recognizable.

Guys,
I have now seen a lot of the new C-8 Corvettes as time passes.
When seeing one come right at you in the opposite lane on a 2-lane road they honestly don't really catch one's attention.
Seeing them in a parking lot in different colors gives one a better idea on what they look like and which ones actually Stand-Out to the eye.
I recently did some local errands in my GT4 and one place I stopped for Cat supplies for Rascal our Maine Coon cat was PetSmart.
When I came back out there was a Bright Red C-8 Corvette sitting beside my GT4.
I was glad that the owner made that choice as it helped to insure additional Side-Protection for me.
The Bright Red C-8 convertible was a pretty car no doubt about it.
But my observations were, it's BIG, it does Stand-Out with it's Design.
Lastly, I've owned over the years lots and lots and lots of Corvettes.
I liked them a lot or I wouldn't have owned as many as I did.
However, when I think about it I Never-Ever paid MSRP, much less MSRP plus an Addendum !!!
With that being said ^^^
I don't think my income as a Married fellow with joint incomes, No-Children did I consider a High-Dollar Porsche.
I did purchase one Bright Red 911 Whale-Tail Porsche but only kept it for a Very-very short time.
To me guys the handling was IMHO {PATHETIC} and a Death-Trap for the Novice like myself.
Lastly, the GT4 to a New C-8 is simply like trying to compare Apples to Oranges which as we know simply doesn't work.

Base C8 just isnt attractive, it's too square. Once you get up to the Z06 and start having some fender flares and curves it gets more interesting and looks a bit better.

The Vette is just hideous inside and out. I could never bond with a car I felt was ugly.

I actually think the C8 is pretty ugly. Overdone. I actually really like the C7. C7 and C2 are my favorite Vettes. I used to own a 981 Cayman GTS and like the much more aggressive front end styling of that car better than the 982.

Do that many people who buy sports cars really use them to go golfing? And is it really a deal breaker? Like you're buying a sports car, if you want to go golfing and the sports car doesn't fit your golfing gear, just drive your other car you 100% definitely have because the type of person that would go golfing enough to care probably doesn't live and breath racing or anything like that, and probably doesn't live in downtown with one parkign stall, so you most definitely aren't daily driving a sports car as your only vehicle and have multiple vehicles.
It's a stupid requirement IMO.
