When I specced my gt4 I didn't want full leather until the moment I went to the dealership and saw what it looked like.it reminded me of my golf R so I specced leather on my gt4

Yes... Im a whiner and a broken record (my words not yours) and FWIW its a $125,000 car with $30,000 to 'fix' the engineering. Im still miffed (obviously) that Porsche sand bagged the car the way they did while it was hyped as 'the perfect sports car". Maybe im a $250,000 spend on a car kinda guy - and in that car I would get the leather (and PPF and try not to scrap the splitter)!

When I’m outside of the car, I usually look at the car
When I’m inside the car, I’m usually looking at the road.

I had a 987.2 with extended leather that I bought new with no intention to track it. But that car ended up on the track before the break-in period was done and I was hooked.
several track weekends later, I was participating in an HPDE event and it was raining buckets. The organizers still required that we keep our windows down. As the wipers swept from right to left, gallons of water were being dumped into the drivers side windows opening.
Later that day or the next, I noticed that the leather was lifting along the top of the door panel. I was bummed while at the same time thinking it was silly for me to have ordered leather. This while my 987 was seeing more and more track time and less and less street time. Eventually, the swelling disappeared completely.
Fast forward some 10 years and I went looking for a GT4 with full leather. I just have a thing for that stitched center console and dash I suppose.

I went with the base interior for my 22 GT4. I intend to keep the car for a long time. As others have already mentioned, I was concerned about how the leather would look 10 years or more down the road, and how it might be affected by driving on the track in the rain with the windows down. I did choose the leather steering wheel and shift **** though!

what fun would that be…I love my car… now… and I’ll keep my GT4 at least for a few more years then maybe turn it into a boat anchor or a few thousand paperweights… and then get a GT3 and move my complaints over to that sub forum. Sound good?

My GTS 4.0 is like a piece of sporting equipment to me, like a VW GTI. I have an Audi A6 with very nice all brown full leather to drive everyday. So, no leather on the Cayman, very basic interior…good head lights though!
My Porsche was purchased to drive after-work and on weekends in the countryside with the windows open. Also will drive 2 to 5 open track days a year. I may total this car, as I have done to a Porsche 911 all ready at Watkins Glenn. Also do not need to worry about leather care or rain so much.
If this was my only car, and I lived in Italy in a fancy city like Turin, Modena or Bologna, then I would have chosen a more subdued exterior color and nicer interior to match the nicer clothing that I would need to wear to be considered normal there. For me, here in the Midwest, USA, this car is better to drive (only slightly to be completely honest) than the GTI and good enough for what I do with it. In hindsight I could have just kept the GTI and been 85% as happy and let my Daughter drive the car to school and had more cash to spend when visiting Italy etc…. but I do love the Python Green GTS 4.0 when I walk past it in the garage or jump in for a ride!
yes, I wrecked one and if you go to the near limit you may also and leather dash and doors will not enhance that experience

a civic is gonna look nicer than rubber dash pcars, I won't be able to deal with that

I don’t know, I’ve sort of done both. The GTS had the rubber dash for a bunch of reasons and I thought it looked fine. The spyder (not my spec) has the leather dash and the leather trim package (which I thought was plasti dipped lol). I dislike leather for a bunch of reasons, but I will say the one nice thing that package brings is ractex in the door cards and dash - that has elevated the interior for me. Too bad you can’t combine that with the rubber dash.

This is why I spec'd leather... But I can see very good reasons for not doing so on a track focused car.

uhm that’s a full leather interior with a leather dash, not plastic.
I didn't go for it. Looks fine (to me) with a black plastic dash/red stitching, Bordeaux leather seats and black brushed aluminum. And I'm the only person who counts since I'm planning to keep it forever. I could care less about impressing other people... I do wonder if I should have done a leather seat back. But it's a 2 seater, and I only notice it on occasion since the car windows are tinted.
