for regular Toyotas and VW, yes. Golf R and Honda civic Type R are historically very strong resale cars and will probably stay that way. Hard to say what will happen to GR Corolla since it's a totally new model.
and I would rather drive a golf R than a base c class Benz or 3 series sedan personally. Most BMWs and Benz's have lost all character. I had an f80 M3 CS which I enjoyed, but the new G8x gen lost me. Same with this new 4 cylinder c class AMG. No thanks.
I still don't get it. They probably build 100x more Golf Rs and Type Rs than they do GTs, I just don't find the appeal either of these 2 cars but hey maybe because I'm old. haha

I'm not certain on Type R, but Golf R was around 1200-1500 total in the US for 2022. So not a big amount. It's also much more affordable than a Porsche GT car, so I think there's probably a lot of fish in the pond for that car.
I think those cars are fun DD's that don't need to be super babied (at least to me). I'm 34 so perhaps my perspective is different. I'd take a Golf R or a CTR all day over a 330 or C300, which is at the same price point.
I feel like I stole my new 2022 GT4 for only a $20k ADM and it only took me 7 months from allocation and deposit to delivery!
you do what fits your budget and you can justify financially. Enjoy your car. It sucks a car "community" like P car owners can be so petty and **** on your ownership/purchase.
People are buying G Wagons still because the are 100% write off.
That bonus depreciation write off is coming to an end as Trump's tax law expires soon. I picked up a Taycan to be my business car which I'll full write off.
If I'm gonna spend that kind of $$$ on an SUV it'll be a Urus.
Interesting choice given its production numbers and clone relationship with the cayenne and bentayga. The Purosange (if you don’t really need an suv) or the Cullinan seem like better buys in that price range. I’m replacing the wife’s Range Rover so we cross shopped all of these and the G is a joke to me. Its interior packaging is horrendous, and all the folks tarting up a UPS truck for looks is comical. They’re getting $100k+ over sticker for 3 year old ones! The entirety of its production run is supposedly sold out but I think by some “miracle” they’ll extend it.
Since we do go off pavement and tow occasionally with her vehicle we wound up ordering the new RR at msrp, which was nice compared to nearly every other dealership we visited.

I'm more of a Macan kind of guy as I don't need a big SUV to tow or haul kids around but I'm picking up a Taycan to replace my Macan GTS and then will buy a Macan EV in the 2nd year of production.

Can you explain this to me in a bit more detail?
I thought for Section 179, there's a max limit to how much you can depreciate per year ($25,000) even for heavy vehicles?
Do you just mean that you're going to write it off over a number of years?

For the Type-R they build about 5000 a year for the US so it's actually not produced in far greater numbers than GT cars on an annual basis, they just don't take breaks the way Porsche does between .1 and .2. I owned one, but it still doesn't make sense to me to pay a 40-50% markup for one, but to each his own ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
lol. dealers can ask what they want but problem is, the sky has already fallen. The number of G wagens for sale has risen dramatically and there are numerous articles about that market collapse. Along with the Urus, it may literally be the car that has lost the most value in 6 months in % terms.

Dude earlier in the thread says he’s been offered a bunch of new ones at msrp. One of you is wrong.

Or we're in different markets, or he has a really strong local or national MBUSA relationship, or the market is changing quickly. Did you get your pm on what dealership he was referring to? I've received zero offers to buy a G at msrp from my two local dealerships or the one out of state that I've bought from previously. I haven't checked with them in the last couple of months so it could be different now but I seriously doubt it.

Different markets are different. My market is MSRP but they only sell locally. Others can't get less than $15k markup. All dealerships kind of do their own thing depending on the market and what other dealers are doing.
