Default Preparation for dash camera

Perhaps a silly question, but I ordered my car with this option and can’t find a description on how to access the cable.

Has anyone attempted this yet?

You're in luck, or not. I just completed my radar detector installation using blend mount and mirror tap. BTW, it is MUCH easier to remove the larger part of the mirror housing before removing the smaller section around the mirror shaft.

Thanks to all the OP that included pictures of their installation which were a huge help.

In my 2023 CGTS 4.0 I did not have a blue/yellow connector, it was blue/blue, but the wire colors did match. Also the stealth bomber plastic piece has been replaced with a metal RF shield that I was not willing to risk damaging for a peak underneath. If you know how to remove it. please let me know. I did take several pictures. There is a blue/white connector that might be the dash cam prewire, but it was not obvious to me. If you can spot the prewire, please let me know.

View inside the roof opening for lights/door opener/etc. I believe the black carrier holding both blue/blue connectors is taped to the roof and easily came loose. I was not able to get it reconnected.

Driver's side view of the mirror assembly.

Passenger side view of the mirror assembly. I thought the blue/white connector might be the dash cam connection, but it wasn't obvious.

Another driver's side view. I thought the pink/red connector might be the dash cam prep, but it looks like an RF cable.

A wide view into the opening for the ceiling lighting module.

A wide view from the passenger side. Yes, I know the garage is messy.

A different angle from the passenger side.

Hope this helps,
Greg

Well, now I know why I didn't find the pre-wire in the overhead console. I asked my SA to check with their techs. This is what he came back with:

"I spoke with our Porsche Tech about the wiring for the dashcam. It appears according to the Tequipment instructions to be on the right side (direction of travel) running down the A-pillar."

Same I spec'd the dash cam prep and would rather not shell out a few hundred bucks for someone to just plug in a wire lol.

Maybe. I’m 50/50 on installing a dash cam and still need to decide which one. I did the pre wire with the idea that it could be used for the dashcam, radar detector, or both. When I could not find it in the mirror assembly, I installed the radar detector with a mirror tap instead.

Being in the Chicago area I’m likely a couple weeks from putting a cover on it and waiting for spring for any new additions. Just hoping to finish the 2k breakin, (a little under 400mi so far) before the weather closes in. I really want to hear the engine above 4K rpm.

I was wondering if speccing this made wiring easier, perhaps via adapter or otherwise.

as I understand it correctly, the preparation is to enable this to be attached: https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/skudashcam.html

I asked a Porsche technician about this today, he said the only prep is a new dedicated slot in the fuse box for the camera, a cable still needs to be run to the mounting position.

Well that's a joke.

Sounds like a total waste then. I was hoping pre-wiring meant it was all set up near the rear view mirror and you slot in the camera/housing and bob’s your uncle.

Also note this will disable wireless car play for cars equipped as such. Another detractor for this option.

I’ll pass.
