It's not obvious, at least in way I can easily explain. When the **** is pushed all the way down on the shifter rod, something up inside engages and clicks - the **** taking hold of the rod. When this occurs, the shifter button on top becomes proud instead of being recessed. See the photos below for a visual.

Thanks for the info. So then that begs the question how does it come off? Do you think you keep in Park and press the button and just pull up?

On a side note I tried to order one and the part is backordered until at least July right now.

If I recall, the black collar beneath the **** also turns and locks it in. You have to turn the black collar before you can pull the **** off.

6-8 weeks is the standard timeline to get these parts. They're not usually in stock.

I have the GT4RS parts coming from Germany. I'm sure its the same process except swapping the boot. I'll report anything different.

thx to OP I'm now doing this mod to my 991.2 GTS. However I ran into a little problem, I can't disconnect the hazard light/door lock buttons from the car. any tips on unpluging it? Should I just bluntly pull it off with force?

I used GT4RS ****, just followed the OP's instructions, and did not have any issue putting it in. The new **** looks simpler and way better than stock. Much thanks nothingman!

Sekiro, for the button assembly, just use a flat screw driver to slightly press on the two little "*****" on the shorter edges of the button assembly (one at a time is fine). Good luck.

Do you have the part numbers for the GT4RS **** for others to do this as well please?

Suncoast now has GT4RS PDK shift **** and boot.

I ordered a set (Black/Arctic Grey) from a Canadian dealership (Back ordered/No ETA). And here is its part #: 982-713-120-A-P02, and for the plastic piece: 991-553-651-01-A05

Default GT4RS **** in a PDK GT4

Just to be sure I understand. If I order the GT4RS shift **** assembly for my PDK GT4, do I also need to order the GT4 manual boot? Or can I just drop in the GT4RS **** and boot. I know the stitching on the RS boot is limited, but I can live with that.

You only need the GT4RS PDK shift **** assembly. This thread was written before the GT4RS solution was available, so we had to combine parts with the GT3 PDK **** and GT4 manual boot.

Don't forget the console trim. The GT4RS part still doesn't come with the manual console trim.

For a little bit of extra resolution on how to get the collar off without breaking anything.

Its hard to see but there is a slot in the middle of the inside part of the clip when the collar is in the "locked" position.

If you don't have three arms like me pry each clip open and use a zip tie to slide under the clip and into the slot now holding up the clips on both sides.

Now that you have the zip ties in it won't come out because they jam while inserted and pulling down on the collar. One thing I found out is the collar as a "locked" and "Unlocked" cam. While the zip ties are inserted roll the collar to its unlocked position (clockwise). Once unlocked pull the zip ties out and then the collar slides down the shifter.

Close up picture of the slots on the shifter showing how it needs to roll before being able to slide off.

Did you order it direct from Germany? If so, can you share the source and any details on the order.. I'm in France for another three weeks and it would be easy to get one sent to me here.

So I'm sure, that's the little $18 piece Suncoast calls Console trim (Manual Transmission)SKU991553?

Thanks again.

My SA ordered it from the parts department and there is no stock of this part in the US as the car still hasn't made it here yet. I would drop by the local Porsche dealer close to you and order it. Its pretty small and will fit in a carry on. Yes that is the correct trim part.
