Not sure that the GT3RS shift **** will fit on the "regular" GT4. Is it? Also, my dealer told me the 718 GT4RS PDK **** won't work on the 991.2 GT2RS. Is that right?

Try Suncoast in 3 months time, I doubt there will be a part number for it as it's only just been shown to public at Monterey.

For this particular shift **** to work, it needs to be taken apart and mated to the 4RS shift boot to fit into anything non-992.

Your dealer has no experience.

981 GT4 PDK
982 GT4RS
991.1 GTS
991.1 GT3
991.1 GT3 RS
991.2 GTS
991.2 GT3
991.2 GT3 RS
991.2 GT2 RS

For argument sake, is all identical for this particular part.

For my PDK GT4, my dealer (Porsche of Southampton) simply ordered from the factory the GT4RS shift **** and the $18 trim piece and installed in it my PDK GT4. The whole job took about 10 minutes and they didn't bother to charge me.
I asked them if they could do the same thing--namely install a GT4RS shift **** on my 991.2 GT2RS--and they said no. I did not ask whether they could install a 991.2 PDK shift assembly modified with a manual GT4 shift boot on PDK GT2RS.
If anyone has installed such a modified **** on a GT2RS or believes the "straight" GT4RS **** and trim piece will work on GT2RS, please LMK because I'd like to do that mod on my GT2RS.

It's already been established that it's a simple drop-in. The 992 4RS ****/boot fits on any 991.

The hard part is getting the parts. I have an order in, but with no ETA as usual. Suncoast says ETA is maybe next year...

Thanks for that. I'll go back to my service manager about the GT2RS. He ordered the one for my GT4 from the factory. It took about 4 weeks in June/July. You might have your dealer try that.

@ragerard I will just leave this here, or you can send the image to your dealer.

Having some issues removing the original PDK shifter off, do i twist the bottom little collar clockwise? Or is it counterclockwise?

So, as it seems with a fair number of members on this forum, I was interested in replacing my GT4 PDK shifter with the GT4 RS shifter

Suncoast offers the RS shifter, but it seems the Race-Tex (Alcantara) is indefinitely on backorder

So, I contacted several of the Porsche dealerships with whom I have interacted over the years. All said the same thing. First, they had no idea what I am talking about . . . then, that RS shifter is on backorder

I just had my JCR Race Exhaust installed at a local Porsche service shop in the Orlando area and they seem to know more about Porsche than the Porsche dealerships do . . . the service is most certainly much better

With nothing to lose, I asked them if they could get RS shifter? The next day they called and told me RS shifter with Alcantara boot with desired stitching and trim piece were on the way from Germany and will arrive within a week.

I asked them ‘what gives?’ How did they do that?

Well, the owners/operators are more than a mom-and-pop Porsche service shop. They are all experienced Porsche technicians that seem to have a passion for Porsche and got tired of working for Porsche . . . so, as I am sure at many such Porsche service shops around the country, they went into business for themselves

It seems the key to obtaining the RS shifter is contacting the distributor directly (coming from Germany) but, importantly, to PAY THE FREIGHT CHARGES UPFRONT. Paying the freight charges upfront somehow makes the order a priority in the eyes of the distributor.

Perhaps a more business savvy person can explain why? As far as I am concerned, I really do not care. I paid the $90 freight charge and my RS shifter is currently on a plane to the States.

The shifter, trim piece, freight charge, taxes and 30min of labor came out to about $900. I will have it installed next week after it arrives, or when time allows in my schedule.

I suspect the labor costs can be eliminated by most, as it seems to be an easy DYI project. However, I wanted to throw the shop 30min for their efforts in helping me out. They are not a parts distributor like Suncoast and rely on labor fees to stay in business . . . and their rates are half of what the Porsche dealerships charge.

Avera

EDIT: My interest in the RS shifter is partly aesthetic, but mostly tactile. I am in PDK manual mode nearly at all times and NEVER use the paddles; ALWAYS use the shifter.

Upgrade your OEM shift paddles to JCR shift paddles, you will thank me later.

Nice. I've been waiting for months. Suncoast told me they had like 95+ orders for these shifters. They trickle in every week. But there's a line. It's not like they can get 100 of them in one order. So it doesn't surprise me a smaller shop can order one direct and get it faster. But if your shop ordered 100 of them, I wonder how long it would take...

Thank you @NCheok . . . but it's not that I don't like the OEM paddles. I simply prefer to feel the shift through the shifter and the active motion of shifting that the paddles do not offer. I guess it's remnant of the manual fan boy in me? I do not miss the clutch.

P.S. I happen to have brand new set of JCR paddle shifters that were gifted to me.

Well there is a shortcut for you since you're a customer of theirs. I haven't found any shops near me that can order one.
