NOTE to self: Stay away from downtown road construction. The SRS is good on uneven pavement but it's NOT a truck! Wow sometimes I wonder if this construction will ever stop.

Just had some conversations with my dealership's GM. Things aren't final at this point, but they're very firm.

I now know the ADM number, and I'm fine with it. We're discussing possibilities to ultimately reduce my cost through bridge cars where I still come out net ahead (where depreciation would not a concern), as does the dealership. I have money I can commit for a period, so I'm willing to play ball. I'm trying to limit my loan to something someone might have buying a Lexus RX. I've saved a long time to do this responsibly!

The 918 Spyder VIPs are completely out of my way at this point. Once their first 2025 MY allocation gets released, it is mine, and it will be PTS as I desired.

So my likely expected delivery timeline is late November to early December 2024 -- later if the allocation is later -- but that's what I'm planning for. Early 2025 always possible, but they're expecting a demand release in September. I will likely engage with brokers to completely cover my bases, but odds are I'll be sticking with a salesman I've known for 15+ years. I've only bought two Porsches ever -- a 2015 Cayman GTS and my 2016 Boxster Spyder. Neither from this dealership, and only the Spyder I bought from my salesman (as I promised in 2010).

Likely doing break-in no different than my 981 Spyder. In barely-above-freezing temps in New England before winter truly arrives.

What holds it down in the back?

Easier or harder (ie slower) to put on than the actual top? Looks like tie down points at each mirror and each door handle. I wouldn't think you would need one for the windscreen (?) but probably somehow on the back.

Do you even need the tie downs if it's in the garage?

I estimate the Tonneau cover installation: 1.5 minutes

I estimate the Soft-Top with Weather Barrier installation: 4.5-5 minutes.

Net time savings estimate: 3 minutes

Car covers scratch cars. I don’t believe the tonneau cover wouldn’t.

I don’t understand the purpose of the tonneau cover in the garage. What are we protecting the cockpit from? Dust?

It is always going to get dusty just from the open road. I was thinking for keeping bugs out.

Multiple videos have people installing the top in ~2 minutes.

Even better.

Do you think the tonneau cover is a worthwhile endeavor? I still don’t understand the point. It’s actually good for the car’s fabric top to be fitted in place so it doesn’t shrink and so it can live a good bulk of its life stretched out.

Humidity? I don’t think anything is keeping humidity out of a Spyder RS unless the environment itself is humidity controlled. Same with any odors that may be present in the garage.

Bugs maybe. Kids? I doubt a bed sheet draped over the car would keep an unattended young demolition squad from doing its work.

Yep, and with full PPF, no scratches.

This is very fast and easier, literally seconds to deploy, it saves wear and tear on the factory roof system, my theory, is the more you touch or operate something the more likely that you can drop or break it, you can't break this cover, and it won't scratch the car!

I use this cover indoors when I am leaving the top down overnight, keeps the dust out, Yes, there are loops at the mirrors and door handles, up front too for around the wiper arms. Out back on this particular version are tabs meant to tuck behind an open trunk lid, I don't use them on the Spyder.

In the garage, I use only the mirror and door handle loops, I have made the paintwork so slippery with ceramic coatings that if I don't use the loops it simply slides into the cockpit!

Are you saying paint protection film doesn’t scratch?

100%! I was told by AP to leave the SRS top at home to save even more weight from the car...

I am surprised that you didn't know that, many high-performance PPF products have been self-healing for years now...
