I agree that the pricing could be a determining factor, they would be very careful in this regard. But I don't see the Speedster as part of the equation, those buyers are 911 centric (except Bob) few if any want a 718.

I think that they would price it with the same increase they did for the GT4 going to the GT4 RS, which is still a significant jump over the current 718 Spyder.

Maybe some of the stuff from a regular manual 718 with a 4.0L can be re-used.
I didn’t mention manual mid-engine - yet with GT3 engine - because for that, there is no parallel, as there was for the GT3RS/911R. Just wanted to clarify for posterity.

I hope you’re right, but those 911 vs mid-engined little brother lines are getting dangerously blurry, now that there are GT dept variants, especially with the top of the line gt3 motor in them. For me, a $143k spyder rs with a gt3 motor in it makes a $275k (base) speedster look absurdly over priced. (Which I think it was, even without the spyder rs conversation, for my money.) But I guess the speedsters are all sold anyway, right(?), so it doesn’t matter…?

Now, if I can just finish getting blackmail material on all the local SAs and GMs so I have a shot in hell to even get one. lol

Understood.....guess you would have to use the current tranny with GT Gears upgraded gears and LSD......

I'm hoping the 718 Spyder RS will be to the 991 Speedster what the 991.2 GT3 Touring was to the 911R.

I feel that the Spyder RS will not carry the RS moniker if ever made..and it will be the analogous form of the 718 speedster..the whole reason the speedster exists is as a fun, open-top motoring alternative to the track focused GT3. With that came individual throttle bodies, a small bump in hp, a manual transmission, and a HUGE price tag because of the open top and new design. Since there can be no track focused convertible, it will be named IMO with either a new moniker or as possibly a “718 Speedster.” It will be one delicious car but with a price tag to match.

The Porsche 718 RS Spyder name has a lot of history; it’s where the whole 718 line’s naming originated. The originals were open top mid engined sports car with humps in the rear, and so would be a new one. See the 718 W-RS Spyder and 718 RS60 Spyder below.

The 991.2 Speedster and GT3 is already analogous to the current 718 Spyder and GT4.

See the Porsche Press release of a few days back defining “RS” as also fun car.

Almost simultaneously is AP and Porsche brass commenting on the Spyder RS as “interesting” but no decision has been made. Lol…that’s “on the record” speak for it’s coming.

All the heavy lifting already done. Historically they almost have to do it…1963 718 Spyder RS LeMans Class Win.

Say they make couple thousand and charge $50K more…do the math.

It’s coming…

Weird, since they are definitely going to build it. And it is coming soon.

Just like the 45 pages of discussion why they’ll never put the GT3 motor in the 4RS. Lolz….

Those two cars make a good argument for the classic Spyder interior.

Honestly I never thought that Porsche would put the GT3 engine in the GT4 RS. Always thought they would build upon the 9A2 Evo engine.

Looks like OP has 14 posts only, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say he AP's throwaway account. So if it comes out I think it's because Porsche read this forum and use it as a test bed for demand on future models.

I bet the GT team was reading the RS thread and laughing their *** off knowing it was getting a GT3 engine.

The final run of Spyders would be nice to see the RS motor in it.
All i need is the motor and a manual transmission. Perfect weekend driver roadster.
