The 718 Spyder RS Discussion Thread

Thank you. Do you have the EU data on the 991.2 GT3? I know they measure the weight differently now.
I recall from the launch of the 992.1 GT3 that the 992.1 GT3 is 11lbs (5kg) heavier than that similarly specced 991.2 GT3.
So that would mean the Spyder RS, despite being 6 inches shorter and an inch more narrow than my 991.2 GT3, and lacks an automatic roof......but is still only 20kg (25-5) lighter than my 991.2 GT3.
Just seems odd for the "lightweight" RS model to be so close in weight to a larger GT car with a metal roof that has the same engine.

It is definitely not as pretty as the SRS - no desire at all to ever procure one. I imagine that crowd just staring at them, which is not the point of one of these cars.

Just got back from an eastern OK road carving tour, and I confirmed what I already felt to be true: the spyder doesn’t NEED more power. It’s got plenty to be thrilling while staying balanced.
Some folks will always want more power. Different strokes and all; but the spyder doesn’t “need” it (ie it is in no way under powered). It has more than enough grunt in any road situation. In one man’s opinion.
Now, where do I sign again?

Yeah, I had a 996 tt back in the day. It is slow for today, but was still a missile. Ungodly torque.
The spyder is an epically competent car, as is.

6.5 hours ish - tick tock
As for that interior sound track...it isn't "classically" good. I need to mull on that. It's intense, I'll give it that. (completely subjective, of course)

I would never want a quiet roadster! I absolutely love hearing the engine / exhaust notes bounce off walls, overpasses, tunnels and even trees filling the cabin with such wonderful noise!
Perhaps a Tesla Roadster would be a better choice for you?

I'm pretty sure you can control the volume with your right foot...

“Rev this engine from 8000 to 9000rpm and you get that metallic edge to it, a really exciting sound,” says Preuninger. “It sounds like the [3.8-litre] engine of the 991.1 GT3,” he adds. He's on record as noting that the 3.8 sounded fiercer than the later 4.0-litre in the GT3 and was keen to bring back that purer mechanical top note.
I agree with this about the 991.1 GT3. It sounded amazing at higher revs. But I always wondered if that's the sound of the engine destroying itself ...

Hope they get that sorted prior to any freeze points.

Looks great! How do they get the yellow stitching? Doesn't the yellow lip on the wheels get scratched up after a couple of tire changes?
