PADM Failure Discussion
#46
Ok ... so I dropped my car at the local dealership to get the PADM "fixed" at 8am yesterday. When I called the dealership for an update yesterday, the service advisor told me that the replacement part didn't come with an accompanying washer. They had to drive to a nearby dealership to pick up the part this morning and I now (noon the next day) learned that the car needs to be realigned. Apparently the engine needed to be loosened to replace the part and when that happens the engine could shift a bit and the car requires realignment. Does that jive with the experience for those who have experienced PADM failure?

My car threw the disabled light and was diagnosed by Porsche but I haven’t replaced the mount yet. Our local dealer said no alignment needed when I asked them but my confidence level with them isn’t great.

Add my 2022 GT4 PDK to the list of PADM failures. It happened during my first run at NEPA SCCA Pocono Raceway East infield course autocross. I did some research and found a service bulletin for the 992's regarding PADM failures that stated "the engine mount will act like a conventional mount and a corresponding warning message will be displayed in the instrument cluster", so I decided to continue my running the rest of the day (but bailed out for day 2). I'm not sure if it was the placebo effect, but I did feel a difference and the car felt a little less predicable. Either way, I'm going to get it fixed ASAP just to be sure. I'm just waiting for an ETA from my dealership on the part and fix timeframe.

Update: Got a call from my dealership on Friday (only 5 days after I notified them of the PADM failure) saying the replacement mount was in and they were able to schedule me for the following Monday morning. I got a call later that day that the car was fixed and ready for pickup. The error code is gone and I'm happy it's fixed; however, I'm a little concerned that they said there was no need to realign the car, so I'm debating if I shouldn't ask them to check the alignment just to be sure. Thoughts?

Porsche Active Drivetrain Mounts.
Prior to the birth of the acronym the 991 had dynamic engine mounts and the 981 had dynamic transmission mounts. Of course the mounts are in exactly the same location relative to the body on both models but the drivetrain is reversed.

LoL. After almost two months…
The 718 has a brace structure under the motor that bolts to both the rear suspension and unibody. This brace mist be removed for driveline mount R&R. The 981 does not have that brace. SOP, is to align after unbolting any part of the suspension or any load-bearing part bolted to the suspension. I offer no judgment of that SOP, I merely report its existence as the justification for why the 718 needs alignment after a driveline mount change and your 981 doesn’t.
Has nothing to do with PDK vs Manual.
