Subscribed! Saw this thread today and hadn't even filled up my new Spyder yet, just checked and it is the new look, not sure if I prefer it, we'll see after a few fill-ups but a good aftermarket option in real metal would be a winner I suspect.

FWIW, Porsche may be on the right track in producing the gas caps out of painted plastic vs metal.

My Gallardo had a real solid metal gas cap—the thing was heavy, and certainly felt like a quality piece in itself, but I was always super delicate with it to be careful not to drop it, as it would certainly take a chunk of out the paint if I did.

Happy to be back in the land of plastic gas caps again, light and carefree!

Of course, something that was super light, and finished with a surface that minimized any risk of paint damage if dropped would be just fine as well. Especially if it looked nice, like these (without the logo):

Could you verify its all plastic or not. Could you also post the part number printed on it.

It is definitely plastic all over, not sure on part number but the this is on the small plastic attachment cable 971-201-556, so assume that is it as I saw no other numbers on it. I prefer the old one, but it's not a big deal.

Also, it doesn't really 'click', there is just a bit more resistance when you turn it around the half way point and it's still just a Qtr turn overall.

Interestingly enough, my 2018 GMC truck does not even have a gas cap, they use a two flap system that is opened by inserting the filler nozzle, no need to remove the cap or worry that you have put it back on... saves weight too!

If Porsche did that, they couldn't get us to shell out $140 for shiny plastic one.

Don't give them idea's, I can see it now:

No fuel cap - $0
****ty plastic cap - $100
Slightly less ****ty plastic with Porsche on it - $200
Real aluminum cap - $750
Carbon Fiber cap - $1500
Carbon Fiber with customized illumination $2k
Leather with Contrast Stitching cap - $3.5k
PTS cap - $10k

When I pick up my GT4 last week I was surprised to see this fuel cap then realized my SA must have accidentally check the box. I actually like it quite a bit even it’s all plastic LOL😀.

So your SA also discounted the car's price since you didn't order it?

LOL no! I didn’t realized it until I saw it in my garage and honestly it was a good mistake since I like it. The price increase was too small to notice from build to contract however I will pay more attention next time.
