There’s some new GT4 and GTS owners so I thought I’d bump this thread.

Spyder owner here. Can’t recall if I answered prior but to recap... no. Not satisfied. I can actually side with Porsche on this one though, it’s not their fault. They contorted themselves to bring the car to market in this difficult regulatory environment and that’s all we can ask. If we have to aftermarket the exhaust that’s a small price to pay.

Yes. Happy with the Stock exhaust in the GT4. My reference point is a 991.1 C4S with PSE.

Done many 4-6 hour b-road drives, which require an hour or so of interstate driving to get there. GT4 is not exhausting to drive long distance. And when you want to get on it, it rewards all your senses.

Hi John,

Nice to hear! I’m in Australia also and have a Spyder on the way. Do our cars have no sensor connection to the OPF canisters, similar to the USA, or do we have the same setup as Europe?

I’m not 100% sure but it seems the car’s flap
control varies not only rpm but also throttle position. I’ve been in the break in period still and sometimes the sound deepens and sounds louder < 4k when more throttle is applied.

I came from a 981 GT4. Honestly that car sounds better. It has a musical unique tone to it in the porsche lineup. This car sounds more metallic if that makes sense. Hard to describe. But I like the mechanized sounds - weird intake noises and other mechanical sound you can’t hear on the 981. This car sounds more “porsche” to me than the 981 GT4 did.

Also I hear notes of 997.2 GT3 in the note as the revs start to build. Maybe I’m nuts.

The thing I wonder is if noise regulations are so bad in europe how can the sound of the 992 GT3 be explained if they need to adhere to strict standards?

A relatively cheap way to fix the poor sound is to add a valve controller:

I think we’re the same setup as US - I’m told it’s because fuel quality here in Oz is poor quality (on a world ranking)

If I want more exhaust noise I don’t bother opening the valves - just open the windows 😊 - that alters the balance of inlet manifold to exhaust noise bit like a fader control on the sound system.

Thought I’d bump this thread since I’ve had the car a couple of weeks.

As a general rule I don’t modify cars from stock. I sold my C7Z06 and 987 PSE Spyder for my 982 and thought they both sounded great with valves open!

With that being said, I was concerned enough based on RL comments that I ordered some Soul GPF delete pipes when my build froze.

After order I heard a GT4 in the showroom...thought it sounded pretty good. Would say the same with my Spyder.

Have 1200 miles on my Spyder and routinely at 6500 RPMs now on a modified burn-in program. I don’t daily it, so all miles in hill country. I don’t ever drive with PSE off.

This car makes a lot of different noises than my 3.4 Spyder. All good in my opinion. Above 3700 the car sounds good; at 6500 it’s putting out some serious good notes; imagine at 8000 it’s howling.

The 3700 transition doesn’t bother me one bit. I’m either living below it in transit or above in the hills.

Bottomline; probably would have been happy with the stock setup. Think the recent 4.0L PDK GTS video is a good representation of the stock system.

In the 1200 miles I noticed the exhaust note to slightly open up.

If you’re on the fence, would advise you get some miles on your car before you commit to pipes/controllers.

Put the Soul pipes on today and have about 100 miles on them. I’d call them “transformative”.

Day 1 in my garage I’m going to install an in-line shutoff for the valves, so that they fail open.

Its my 3rd car, I don’t want the valves closed!
unlike the 981, these valves stay closed even with them “open” until your foot is into it.

@TXshaggy had mine since mid-August, coming up on 5000 miles, exhaust definitely opening up.
