Right, but this was before Covid. And why aren't the dealers getting as many allocations as they want?

Most likely because parts of Germany had to shut down a 2nd time after a recent outbreak. I'm sure that's pushing all kinds of plans back "until further notice."

Dealers literally always say this. Pre-covid, post-covid, truth or fiction, this is the party line with GT cars.

Ok thats fair. Dealers play games. Either way, the numbers for these cars will be lower than originally thought because of Covid

Porsche can extend the run if they want to satisfy demand.

Cross info from another thread: To date about 175 Spyders and 350 GT4s in the US. So very rare. Average is less than 4 Spyders and 7 GT4s per state.

In a different thread, I saw someone claim they’ve already built for Canada more 982 GT4/Spyder than they built 981 GT4/Spyder for Canada: https://rennlist.com/forums/rennlist...l#post16834444

I don’t know where the claimed quantities come from though. Maybe an insider.

For what it’s worth, I’m on a Whatsapp group of Southern Ontario 718 GT4/Spyder owners, and there are already 20+ group members, and the majority of local owners probably aren’t even in the group (people keep spotting cars belonging to those outside the group). I’d guess there are 50+ 718 GT4/Spyder in this little part of Canada alone, and they’ll probably be building 100 more for this small area. Also, in Montreal, there are a dozen GT4s available for sale in dealer inventory. Doesn’t seem to be very rare here.

I’d extrapolate the local numbers to guesstimate there are probably 1500-ish 718 GT4s in the USA at present, and maybe 700-ish 718 Spyders in the USA at present. US deliveries started sooner than Canada.

I predict that by the end of the prosecution run, there will be around 12k 718 GT4 built worldwide, and 6k 718 Spyder.

No way. Porsche has only delivered 872 total 718s in the US so far through June 30. No way there are 2,200 GT4/Spyders delivered already. I’d be shocked if it was even half that. Likely about a third.

You're right, I'm way off for my US sales estimate. Still, US deliveries accelerated in July and August, the bulk of 718 sales were GT4/Spyder, and there are probably around 150+ 718 GT4/Spyder combined in Canada right now, including around 30 non-customer GT4/Spyder in Ontario/Quebec dealer inventory alone.

Well, as of today (Sunday, the 16th of August), there are four (4!) 718 GT4s on the lot at Porsche San Diego...so while they may be “rare” (like, you may not see them often but not like they’re numbered cars), let’s hope/assume the ADM days are already over!

I did some research on VINWiki, VIN Analytics, VIN numbers in dealer inventories just now. While the cars on VINWiki are a subset of the cars out there, it's very useful for identifying patterns and groups in VIN numbers. The last five digits of the VIN appear semi-sequential (ie. they may skip a bunch, and start counting at 40000, but then there will usually be a 40001, 40002 etc).

For the 718 Spyder, all the North American cars thus far have VINs of the form WP0CC2A8xLS240xxx, indicating they're made in Stuttgart, and I've seen a wide range of last three digits ranging from 063 to 584. #584 is the last Spyder built for Canada as of today, with a build date of July 23rd.

For the 718 Cayman GT4, all the North American cars thus far have VINs of the form WP0AC2A8xLK289xxx, indicating they're made in Osnabrück, and the last three digits I've seen range from 084 to 665. #665 is the last GT4 built for Canada as of today, with a build date of July 23rd as well.

According to VIN Analytics, total production numbers for North America as of today are:
  • 718 Spyder: 64 for Canada, 187 for USA
  • 718 Cayman GT4: 120 for Canada, 365 for USA
I believe these numbers, and they explain the excess numbers seen at dealers in Canada compared to the USA. The USA is getting 3x the cars for 10x the population. As to why the sum of Canada and US numbers doesn't match the last three digits of the VIN, I'm guessing that's because the VIN series also includes cars destined for countries other than Canada and USA.

For reference, in the 981 generation, they built:
  • Boxster Spyder: 64 for Canada, 750 for USA
  • Cayman GT4: 293 for Canada, 2101 for USA

Over 900 Gt4’s and high 400 Spyders for North America built so far. There are gt4’s built in Stuttgart. The North American cars share the vin sequence and they pretty much go consecutively from 060 something up. They will change now that they are going into 2021 production.
