Seems that it's happening to everyone, even after a decent amount of miles for the transmission to loosen up. Is there a clip of this grinding noise somewhere?

Happened to me one time, cant exactly remember the parameters but it was a shock. Could be a break-in issue but if it happens much more, i'll have the gear oil changed out sooner rather than later.
BTW, I had a 2002 TT w/6speed that started to develop a syncro issue between 1st and 2nd at about 100,000kms. I had the transmission oil changed to an Amsoil product and the issue went away. Not saying that there's an issue with the syncros, just some past OPEX.

Happened to me today. 180 miles on the car. Turned onto the road, 4,000 rpm went to shift into 2nd and it was like I tried to shift without the clutch. All four of my Porsche’s are manual and this is the first time I’ve experienced this issue in any of them. Hopefully this isn’t a problem with the transmission. I wasn’t driving spirited and didn’t “miss” a shift. Very strange.

Yes, after the gear “grind” (not sure how loud) as I was taken of guard it went into 2nd. I headed up a canyon road where i went from 1 - 2 - 3 for many miles. There’s a few spots that are 5 miles an hour switch backs that can require back into 1st gear. Didn’t happen again.

I’m not too worried about this as 981 GT4 owners reported it too, and for most it went away after break in. It seems to affect just about everyone on this forum who has a 718 GT4/Spyder, so if there is a bigger issue, at least Porsche can’t pretend it’s an isolated issue.
I’m curious why nobody with regular non-GT Boxster/Cayman models has reported this same noise. I thought it was the same transmission as the 981 S/GTS and 982 Base/S/GTS 2.5; at least the gear ratios are the same.

I think we need to start tracking build dates for this issue. I'll go first.
If the issue changes or it's been fixed under warranty please revise.
Model: GT4
Grinding issue: No
Gears: N/A
Build date: 3/18/20
Current miles: 700

Any Spyder owners notice this?

I’ve experienced this and I’m now at 3300km. Taken it to the dealer. As expected can’t reproduce the sound. It seems to happen intermittently but with no consistency in conditions. Dealer has told me it’s a problem if it either gets worse or more often. I’ve tried on warm engine, cold engine long run short run. Makes no difference.

I had it ~3 times pre-1000 miles and have never had it since.

I got the 1 ->2 grind a couple of times during the break in period. Then it went away.
Now that I have a lot more miles on the car, I sometimes experience this strange feeling that the lever hasn't properly slotted into 2nd when downshifting from 3rd. However, if I let out the clutch the car is fine, and accelerates normally. But the actual movement feels like the shift lever only moved 60% of the way into 2nd.
Model: Spyder
Grinding Issue: Initially
Build date: May 2020
Current miles: 3300
