I think we all felt the 4RS could maybe be this car. I’ve had 2 7.2 RS’s and I know how special they are. I was counting on the 997 size being the key. I think we may have a future classic on our hands.

Interesting find on a German forum. Apparently the GT4RS has the 90L Tank capability as a retrofit. Supposedly there is no physical difference between the US std 64L and the ROW 90L (optional) tank. Conversion involves changing item 11 (filler neck / overflow) in the pic and then re-coding the IC. Parts come from 991 parts catalog and cost is claimed to be around 200 €. Reason given is because the GT4RS front end is based on the 991 4S.

I think the big difference is that the 4.0 3RS came in manual and the 4RS is only PDK. If there was a manual option on the 4RS then maybe. Plus 600 made versus who knows how many is being produced.
Was at the Montreal Autoshow a couple of days ago and saw this Singer DLS with the intake similar to our 4RS.
Very cool. I have a theory about the in-cabin induction tubes and the associated sound it eminates in the car. My theory is it was discovered by mistake by Porsche, then adopted.
Porsche knew they had a problem with heat-soak, loosing 30-40hp by the end of the race on Clubsports due to the side air intakes ingesting so much hot air coming into the body side air intakes from the hot brakes and tarmack. So, they started tinkering with a way to get cool air into the car. Raising the intake would be the simpliest approach. My guess is they tested a clubsport and came back and said "we've solved the heat-soak problem, but now have a new problem - all that extra noise". The engineers must have challenged themselves "how do we eliminate all that noise in the cabin?" Then, someone chimed in and said " yeah, its a problem, but I sure love driving it - its a lot of fun". Hmmm. Then, the idea caught hold "can we sell a street car that sounds like that?" I would guess that such decision made it all the way to the top brass to sign off before it went into production.
There have been so many cars with side air intakes (Ferrari, Lambo, Mustang, 911, Corvettte, etc) but no one has used it to channel mechanical engine sounds into the cabin like Porsche has done on the GT4RS. It is a game changer. It creates an entirely new aurial experience. My prediction: that is all about the change.
It is such a low cost way to make a car sound great without any of the downsides of a loud, angry exhaust note.
I actually think the bar is very low for other manufacturers to do even better than the GT4RS. As good as the GT4RS sounds on the inside, the exterior sound is at best meh. Of course, 9,000 rpms sounds good in any car. With 500hp, the OEM exhaust could have sounded as good on the outside as it is on the inside. But it does not.
Perhaps the next cool sounding car will get its intake routed from the roof top. Wouldn't that be a hoot.

As you say they wanted to use the higher inlet position for better process air temps but could not use the garden shed solution as per the Clubsports, where you also lose the rear trunk.
This is super loud, so they just turned this side effect and tuned it into a feature.
McLarens, T.50 and other cars have roof scoops and membrane in the roof to resonate and amplify intake sounds so manufacturers have been doing this kind of stuff for a while.
Instead to get an allocation for a build slot for a car at MSRP, you need to be a special customer that the dealer selects either because you’ve spent a lot of money and/or have a long standing relationship or seemingly increasingly, a high profile person.
Of course once the owner had the car it can be resold through the dealer at market price.
In Chris’ case it seems he was offered a 4RS that maybe he couldn’t spec quite like he wanted.. maybe PTS which is not ‘orderable’ at the moment, and then maybe he didn’t like terms offer for the px of his GT3 Touring vs the open market, so felt insulted, and so the deal fell apart.

100% agree. I wasn't really comparing it head to head. Just a reference to it being a future classic. I doubt we will see a 600K 4RS in 20 years! I remember when I almost pulled the trigger on one at 300K. And I know someone who got one at MSRP. Which was like 180K!

i feel like it had to be something more than “pts isn’t orderable” since that’s the same for everyone and there’s nothing the dealer could do about it. By publicly selling his touring on collecting cars instead of back to his dealer, he’s definitely making a statement, and ruining his relationship.
my wag is the spec offered wasn’t configurable at all, or he couldn’t get the weissach package.
