Porsche will always find a reason to increase the prices on their cars. But, to charge more for a 4 cylinder Boxster than the current six? Yes, it's faster and has more torque, but if I was just starting to look for a Boxster, I really don't think I'd buy the 718. As I said, I'm delighted with the car I have, and was extremely lucky to get one of the last seven 981S builds for the US. There is nothing like a NA Porsche boxer six! Nothing.

Does the "PORSCHE" insignia levitate when the spoiler is deployed? Maybe you can get the huge emblem illuminated like the door sills.

Not a fan of the 718 on there either. We don't slap 991 on the back of a 911, why do that to the Boxster.

Not sure why they went to the semi-round air vents on the interior - I thought that the squared vents were a big improvement over the ovals in the 987. I thought the squared vents went well with the rest of the angular lines inside and outside the car.

I think the new rear lights and front end look sharp, however

Because 991 is the internal chassis designation for the current 911, whereas 718 is the public-facing model name. The internal chassis designation for this car is still 981 (981.2 if we're being pedantic), and yes, you don't see that slapped on the back of this car.

Gotcha, didn't realize they were introducing the 718 as a model name, I thought I read they changed the chassis designation. The article was a while back so they were probably just assuming and thus were wrong.

The other article said they had to reshape the rear due to the room needed for the turbos.
You think a 987 boxster is a big step back from the 981 boxster? I'd agree its not as nice looking but its not close to the gap the 981 Cayman was to the 987. As for the Spyders - very little separates them IMO.

Good point about the Mission-E design. I like the rear, although it seems to be going away from the classic Boxster rear lines. Hopefully, the "Porsche" logo is easily removed if there is no delete option for it. It's a little too blatant. Love that color though, Lava Orange?

Curious to see what the tuners can do to these cars considering they already got a decent hp bump! A 718 Cayman/Boxster S with 350 hp and a tune...going to be interesting.

Looks like there are two different headlights in those pictures. Probably some variation of standard, PDLS, and/or PDLS-Plus.

LED headlights are now an option, unlike 981.1.

Holy-heck though!

Performance from both models is strong. Porsche has only confirmed figures for a car specified with PDK and the Sport Chrono Package, but it’s enough for the 2-litre model to hit 62mph in 4.7sec – eight tenths quicker than before – while the new Boxster S covers the sprint in 4.2sec.

I think there are lots of customers out there who may not care as much about not have the flat 6 engine and would rather have the 4.0 sec 0-60 and the rush of a turbo for the rest of us, the used 6-cylinder cars will have to do.

I think the headlamp cluster and rear lamp internals themselves are very modern...rest of car will take some time to get used to. Which I suppose represents a deviation from what Porsche normally does with very safe designs.

The car actually looks like a croc now.
